Getting old (older) sucks at times
« on: December 29, 2012, 08:46:03 AM »
I'll be 56 on March 4th and for the most part I'm blessed to be in good health. No medication, pills, of any kind for blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. that's all normal. But I do have a couple of disc in my neck that causes pressure on a nerve that I go to a chiropractor on a regular basis for that keeps me pain free for the most so I can ride my 750's. I have a weak lower back that goes out at times and it messed up on me yesterday :( all I was doing was bending down to pick up some clothes to put in the washer and bam I felt the pain in my back. Now Im walking around funny and putting ice and heat on it through out the day.So what types of aches and pains does everyone else have here?

D- do you work out in any way?  Not sure what causes a "back to go out" but using muscles on a regular basis should help.
I have a hot tub, nothing like jumping in 103* water to soak those aching muscles!
Highly recommended.

No aches and pains here even at the ripe old age of 62. The only issue that I have is the old ticker is not as good as it used to be (had a major heart attack about 7 years ago and a minor one a few weeks ago). But I still consider myself in pretty good shape at this age. I still work 45 hours a week and I just keep plugging along.

But I feel for you about the back and neck pain. That can really get to ya after awhile. Good luck with it.

Sorry to here that Gardman, My back and neck problems are minor compared to what you've been through with your heart. Hang in there and I'm sure things will be ok.

I used to have back problems, but since we moved to country, there is always work to do and my back is just fine.

Now this tennis elbow is quite persistant; i will have to give up on masturbation I guess :)

Or let the wife do her job :)

I am few month from turning 49, it sucks getting older, I hear you dhall.  Keep the spirit up, thats important and as somebody said, any sport activity helps to keep the aging system moving. No need to pump iron, but bicycle is great for the ticker and easy on joints, i bike quite a bit.

I must say, at the "prime-of-youth" age of 20, I've still had my share! The right knee commonly craps out on me. I HAVE given her quite a beating over the last few years though. Rolled my '87 F-150 when I was 17 and caught the knee under the dash taking a chip off the cap. Then I was helping a guy move a 9000lbs. car lift in three pieces and an arm came loose, catching my right leg--jarring the knee nicely of course! Then, during the panic of a house fire, I tripped off some steps landing beautifully on--take a guess. Then one evening last fall, I was out on Cassie, got caught in some fog, and ended up wiping out in a ditch, where Cassie proceeded to drag me (by the right leg >:( ) about 20ft! I now can relate to all the older guys when they predict the weather by their joints. ;D

Then there is the common aches and pains of working 14-hr. days doing everything from farming, building a house, and plumbing to mechanic work. Life is great. :D

Makes me wonder though... what will it be like when I, too, am 60? :-\

Glad you guys are getting old! I refuse to.  ;)  Oh wait, thats my mind. My body has had a small toll taken on it. Ouch, that just sent out shoulder pain. Hell with it, I ain't dead yet. I crank my hot tub up to an intense 108, just stay in around 20 minutes/1 pump cycle. The whiskey is gone by then anyway.  ;D

When you reach you 60s and nothing hurts in the morning, you died in your sleep.

Last checkup the young Doctor looked at me and said "you are in much better shape that you deserve." Prissy little bastard.

I told him, "you are looking at a life well lived, take notes."

Uh oh...........56 here and of course all the unwanted meds........high blood pressure, cholesterol meds, and have to take supplements on top of that.

Also acid reflux..........have graduated to Nexium.........guess the next step is surgery.

Had MRI on the left shoulder, torn, now getting shots every 6 months.............crappy gittin old/older.

Spent 20 years in the army, was in great shape........since 2000, health has seemed to head south, although, I really think its allot of laziness on my part.

Hey Bud,

What's your weight and height? Acid reflux? What's your diet like? Torn shoulder = scope as shots will not fix a tear.

Yeah, laziness will sure kill you. I'm lazy but watch my intakes to comp for the lazies. Didn't I say I am lazy! I've had 3 of the 4 corners injured and scoped. Only my left shoulder left and if I followed MRiecks advice and switched to my other girlfriend, lefty, that'd probably get scoped too  :) But Mike's the man and he KNOWS  ;D

Well, since I stopped smoking, went from 125 lbs to 180 lbs.

When I was diagnosed with acid reflux, that's when I stopped smoking. June 17th 2000.

Diet sux, I eat everything as long as I like it. Lots of snacks, I sit at a desk almost all day at work. Then come home and do the same.

Laptop and recliner in the living room with tv.

And of course, "beer", lots of "beer". Have a frig in the garage right there by all the bikes and lazy boy recliner and tv there too.

And another computer there too.

So, yeah.....pretty much lazy on my part.

Nexium, just one Nexium. I have to pop two. Yes I too heavy from my height. You could say I am not too fat, I am too short.

Had MRI on the left shoulder, torn, ..

Tore my right shoulder, who knows when. Finally bothered me enough to follow up on it. MRI confirmed the tear. Opted for the surgery. Six weeks in a sling followed by some rehab. The surgery was not a big deal and the shoulder is fine now. You might look into it.

Oh, one more thing. You think torn cuffs are sports related? According to my surgeon 75% of them are from aging.  :'(

I'll turn 56 at the end of January, and I hurt plenty.  But there's a reason for my aches and pains.  A car accident 25 years ago ended up giving me a pinched nerve that the doc's can't find, but they can measure the nerve damage.  So it left me not able to do any high impact activity, like running.  I ran once about 12 years ago when I stirred a bee's nest.  Couldn't walk for a week.  I ended up getting rid of my 750, too much to hold up.   I can manage my 350F, even on a bad day.
Go metric, every inch of the way!
