Hello all... my first post,
I just picked up a great find, a 1981 CB650 Custom original survivor. It's a one-owner Georgia bike with just 14,250 original miles on it. It was last licensed and operated in 1997! It's been in storage ever since. Unbelievably clean for a 31 year old bike. I have the original Owner's Manual and the original tool kit that came with the bike.
I have always loved the '79 to '83 Honda CB Customs. One of my favorite bikes as far as looks are concerned. I was on the hunt for a CB750C or CB900C, but when I went and looked at this one there was no way it was not coming home with me!
I'm kind of a purist regarding these bikes, so I've already removed the Rifle fairing and the backrest. I found a nice clean set of front turn signals on eBay that are on their way to me.
Only two small oil leaks to take care of: the shift shaft oil seal and one of the valve cover gaskets. I have those parts on order. Everything else is tight as a drum. I'm going to spend the winter doing a complete cleaning and reconditioning of anything that needs it.
My wife and I are touring riders and have been riding Gold Wings since 1984, so this bike won't get much actual use in my possession. As such, when I'm done with the reconditioning and cleanup, I'm probably going to sell her in the spring.
I'm not sure if I'm inserting these pictures correctly, but I'll give it a try.
Here's a pic of how she looked when I picked her up.
Here's a pic of her now with the fairing and backrest removed.
I have a strange set of wires coming out of the back of the headlight housing that go nowhere! I'll post that problem up in the appropriate forum with a picture and see if someone can help me with that.
