What the heck is ABATE?
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:26:07 PM »
They have those neat yard signs "Watch for motorcycles".  I looked them up on line and get the general concept, but is anyone actually involved with them?  Just wondering what they're really like...

And has anyone else noticed the cycle image on those yard signs looks a whole lot like a "classic jap" bike except for the funky V-twin oddly jammed in?

I know a few people who are active "ABATE'ers"
They are a group that fights for motorcycle-ist's rights...
They have kept Illinois a non-helmet law state for this long...

In all sincerity its obviously a latin term or even a Wall St lawyers term or the slang version of MASTUBATE.
IE To beat ones meat or pat the ape .
Sounds very unlike a Honda term.
More likely a US term for One who rides with the weird Crank shaft and two rods.
Cheers LLOL

ABATE has nothing to do with honda, but the overall Motorcycle community (in the US)..

back in the late sixties or early seventies when abate started, the acronym stood for a brotherhood against totalitarian encactments.sometime in the eighties, they wussed out and changed the name to a brotherhood aimed toward education.

Being a member since I took my original motorcycle safety class. ABATE = A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education. They teach many of our local basic and advanced classes, works at state level for motorcyclist's rights and provide a Two Wheel Trauma Class to Doctors and Emergency Services. They also sponsor many of the Fun Runs here in Iowa and Illinois. Nice group of folks in my area.

ABATE in Indiana is "American Bikers Aimed Towards Education." They promote safety and try to keep us in a "helmet optional" state. They run the MSF courses and the testing for the BMV. Funny that they promote safety yet this is the picture you see on their home page http://www.abateonline.org/  ??? ??? Yes, the speedo reads 218 km/h!!! That's approx 136 mph! Not to mention the fact that it begs the question: "Who took the photo?"
