Somebody offered me a decent pair of shocks, but they've got eye's on both ends. My bike has a clevis mount on the bottom. Does anybody know of an adapter setup that will work?

shoot me if I'm wrong but.... if you offset the eye to bolt the shock on the swingarm, the shocks will no longer be parallel(spelling sucks) which may or may not cause binding issues ?

I did try that and it seems to work fine, without binding. However, I am a bit concerned with shearing a bolt. Has anybody tried this before?

I wouldn't do that if it were my bike.
The last thing you want is a shock comming off / breaking while riding ...
I am all about "enginering" things, but when my ass is on the line (safety) , i NEVER cut corners.
I agree with _BIFFTA_ , just go spend the $70 at HTTP://WWW.CRC2ONLINECATALOG.COM and get a pair of "short shocks" that are meant for your scoot...They are in their "chopper" catalogue...

I might just have to buck up. I would have figured that a block that converted clevis style mounts to eye would have been commonplace. Maybe I'll invent one and make a million dollars...

1. Take the free shocks and sell them on Ebay.
2. Talke that money and put it towards a set designed for your bike.
3. Sleep well knowing you wont get into an accident becasue of bad judgement..

I definitely wouldn't half-ass something like a suspension component, but if there were a tested, standard and easy adapter, I'd use it. Thanks for the feedback.

If I were to go with the 11 inch shocks mentioned above, would I have clearance issues with the stock 4-4 exhaust? Also, do they include springs and for what weight? I'm 200 lbs and I'd probably have my girl on the back at least some of the time (about 100lbs, depending on humidity and other factors).

For the record, I did find a source of adapters, but they require welding to the swing arm. Probably not worth the trouble for a couple bucks.

An adapter would be easy. I would think all you would have to do is cut out some scraps of metal and get a couple bar clamp thingies and make somthing like this:

You can see the swingarm/original eye in the diagram, as well as the new shock. The red piece represents a peice of metal on both sides with a bolt through both eyes, kind of like a chain link. The blue piece represents a c clamp around the swingarm that is also bolted to the eye of the shock. The point of that is so that when you go over a bump, the eye of the shock won't just come up and go to the other side of the swingarm eye, or get stuck above the swingarm eye.

Those sure look like car parts. If you order one you might find it's about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.

It is a car part like Bodi said, but a smaller version could be manufactured and welded on quite cheaply, once you cut off the old mount, but for the sake of a free used pair of shocks, unless you really, really, want to use those shocks, why bother? Cheers, Terry.

Just weld the eye brackets on the bottom of the swingarm, add a brake stay bracket on the other side, and flip the swingarm over to use whatever shocks you feel like

A friend of mine is a welder who works on drag-racers (Crustangs and the like) and it definitely crossed my mind to go the route of having him take the old mount from the stock shock (clevis) and securing it to the swing arm so I could use any shock I'd like. This bike is going to be used for commuting and some toying around on the weekend so, like the general consensus says, it's probably not worth the headache.

Does anybody know if the 11 inch short shocks listed on http://HTTP://WWW.CRC2ONLINECATALOG.COM will provide adequate support for me (200lbs) and an occasional rider (100lbs)? If not, can I swap the springs to something heavier?

everyone is overcomplicating the issue. all you need is a steel block that fits into clevis to stop it getting crushed and a couple of 1/8" thick, 1"wide by about 2" liong steel straps weldet to it. 3 pieces, 3 holes total two welds to do one side. lowers rear, changes shock position and leverage angle.

I don't mean to over-complicate your 25 dollar "sure-fire fix" mate, but the problem is that he doesn't have a clevis on the swing arm, or on the bottom shock mount, he's got 'eyes" at both ends. To make this work, he'd have to make a bracket similar to the one in 3 Sticks' drawing. Cheers, Terry.

I finally got the shocks and springs mounted and on the bike today. The setup I went with was a set of 12.5 inch RedWing shocks with Progressive 105/150 springs. The chrome on chrome looks great. I took it out with a passenger tonight for a few miles and they felt great too- really a night and day difference. The previous owner had removed the center stand, so the only tough part was lifting the back of the bike with one hand and fitting the shocks on the mounts with the other. Good thing I'm ambidextrous.

As for the free shocks, I've given them to a friend. Perhaps he'll fair better with them.
