Topic: fuel valve

stupid question
on the fuel valve, is the fuel on when the valve covers the on position or on the oppisite side with the valve pointing to the on position
the reason i ask is that i want to know if i have the valve on reserve already and if so then when i run out of gas i really am out of gas

the handle on the petcock funtions as the indicator - so when it covers the word "on" you are on...etc...
