Who knows Dyna coils?

I found a Dyna III and 3 sets of coils in my basket-case CB750K4 boxes. One coil set looks like the CB500/550, with right-angle caps on 2&3. The others are CB750 style, appear to be stock Honda.

What resistance is the coil, if it is a Dyna III coil? I've heard it was less than the standard 4.0-4.4 ohms. Although the standard coils will run with any Dyna, I'd like to know if one of my coils is the right type, or did Dyna specially mark theirs? Anybody got a Dyna III with the coils? Do the coils look different from the stock Honda coils?

I've exclusively installed Dyna S units, which just replaced the points. So, I'm not so familiar with the Dyna III.

All the Dyna coils I have used are the green 3 ohm items, they look entirely different from the stock honda items, and work about a hundred times better too! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Accel coils are 3.3 ohms also.

I could ride up and show you it you'd like to see them in person. Dyna III with GREEN coils. The coils do not look like stock coils. I believe they have DYNA on them. The plug wires come off the front and are angled downward at about 30 degrees. Throw both pieces in my box if you don't use them. Good find !!

I have the 5ohm models on my 550, they are Black, and quite similar to the stock item in appearence....

I see that I definitely do NOT have some Dyna III coils.

Sudco has sold 30,000 volt coils for quite a while which look the same as stock. Part # was 618-407. They fit 550 and 750's.

I don't have pics Terry. I'll be perfectly honest in I don't know if the still offer them BUT I'd think they do. Go to Sudco's online catalog and see. They came with the proper colored wires and blank coil wires. They were OK. Probably out of Malayasia or something though sold through a Japanese outfit I'd guess.

Yep, I installed the green Dyna 3 Ohm coils for my '75 CB550 restoration and they work just fine! I also put one of Terry's oil coolers on the bike, and it works just fine too!!!  :D
