Hi everyone! New member, new (old) bike! CB 550
« on: January 07, 2013, 09:50:05 AM »
Hello all,
I just purchased a 1975 Honda CB 550.  My plans are customizing it to a cafe look.  I looked high and low for a decent bike and I finally found one.  The PO did a few odd things to it but overall he kept it running pretty smooth.  Soon it will be torn down and the modifications will commence!

interesting seat design..

Looks like PO was a military man, given the stars and bars.  Bike looks pretty clean and since it's already been modified a good candidate for a Cafe.  If you plan on taking it apart a bit of advice from someone who's been their; bag and tag everything and take a ton of pictures, twice as many as you think you need because even though it seems obvious now when you go to reassemble some things aren't so clear anymore.  Lots of info here and on the web, YouTube and the parts fiche on CSML.com http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550k2-four-usa_model464/partslist/ .  Congrats on the new  acquisition it's an exciting time, just don't let your excitement get the best of you ie. start cutting tabs off the frame before you decide what your keeping, and you'll be fine.  Welcome and good luck

I don't know the Northern or Southern limits of Humboldt County, but I've spent some time in Garberville. The background in your pics appears to be more inland?

thats an interesting story.
THe bike is in Utah.  I found the bike on KSL.com.  My brother picked it up for me and it is living at his house until I go out and get it.  SO technically I have never seen the bike.  However, my brother is a motorcycle enthusiast and he gave it the once over before I bought it.
To find a decent CB 550 in CA. is not an easy thing to do. Especially one that is reasonably priced.
