kerker exhaust question
« on: January 10, 2013, 09:25:52 AM »
750 owners.............if a kerker 4 into 1 is properly fitted to the head..........all the bolt flanges should be equal distance from front face of head right?  took this off my disaster of a 72 motor and put it on the new 78F3 motor, and 1-3 fitt well, number seems to stick out 1/4" further.  yet when i tap it with a long heavy screwdriver and rubber mallett against the flange, i get same heavy thud as i get from other 3.

also, what is recommended gap between oil pan and top of collector?  seems like mine likes to sit at roughly 1/4" clearance.

thanks.................... i know this shouldnt be this hard to install   and it seeems all was same and ok when on the 72 motor

Do all of the exhaust ports have the copper gaskets in them?  My first thought was that #4 has one while the others don't.  I didn't know that I had to replace the gaskets whenever removing my Kerkers until recently which is why this came to mind.

I think what ccmclane was thinking is that there might be extra crush gaskets on 1, 2 & 3, and none on 4, giving you the extra space on 4.  when i installed a new kerker on my K1 motor,  I had to dig out 2 copper washers from each ex port.  check for extra hidden ones

Think its pretty typical of headers. My yosh header did that and my new brocks did the same but they sealed so I didnt worry about it.

welll header is off and found the culprit.  i have a very small ridge out near edge of the #4 port the header was hanging up on.  will make sure to seat #4 pipe before the rest when i go to put it back on.  in meantime i think i can get a wee bit of sand paper on a pencil in there an smooth it down.  interesting i didnt notice it before.
