Thousands have turned the forks around and yes there would be spacers..everyone did it in the mid 70,s. No schematic needed to adjust the shock, but you got to take the top eye off.

Turning them around accompishes the same that most manufacturers. Have done since the 80,s.
.Plus they look nice, and easier/cleaner to plumb the braided lines..

I am hellbound now, same place as the pic but 4 inches of icy snow on my bike..

I saw Burlys bike when I was dropping my boys off at wrestling this past fall. Actually it caught my eye from across the road while driving. The pics are not doing it justice. The body works shines as well as the bike. It's really sharp!

The forks are early 750ks. Proper for a 71 750. I may have to hit you up burly for that ride sometime. Your neck of the woods has some nice roads. I wonder how hard it would be to change the forks from the original sides to do that set up. I have 3 sets of early fork lowers and dig that set up.

How did you find the bike for 100?

I'd like to add that the original owner knew what he was selling me.  He was selling me a bike that sat for over 10 years with a engine that needed to be replaced within a hundred miles of riding.  I have put lots o money and time getting it to what you see now.

I do see this purchase as a "gentlemans deal", it's not for sale and nor will it be till I am in my sixties, with a sale price of $100. Nor am i trying to boast the deal I got, I have posted it here to show some history.

What you see is standard goods now, that's not the point.  Hondaman's book touches on all the mod's present on this bike.  I'm hoping to show a different point of view.  Over the next few weeks I hope to deconstruct the work and then recreate it so there is less mystery.

Thanks for the engine Kato, I've put over 2,000 on since the swap, about 100 yesterday.

I pulled her out of rest to take a ride.  The roads were clear and the temps were over 40'.  I store the bike in a garage with a full tank of gas, stabilizer, fresh oil and a good polish of WD-40 to hopefully stop rust.

The photo was taken in a snow bank for aesthetics, I also wanted to see how a bike handled in those conditions.  I figured safer to slip 'n slide in the backyard than on the highway...

If the brakes are trailing (in front of the tubes) they are always getting pulled away from the fork.  If the brakes are leading than they brace against the fork.

I would think it increases braking power, using the fork and frame to brace against.

From riding experience it stops awesome, better than my 80's 750.

Its a pic of my chopper back in 83 i think.
Turning calipersback lower weight slightly, and reduces steering effort. You have to remove fender rivets and turn brace around. I ran my dash3 lines thru the steering stem..

They are 72's at the earliest most likely a 73.  When I researched seals the 71 lowers were different than whats on the bike.  The calipers don't match up with a 71 either.  Hell about the only thing that does is the serial #'s of the frame and original engine.

If I had to guess they took a 73 and combined it with a 71.  My seat is off a later model as well- the latch is different.

Let's go for a ride, Waukesha to LaGrange is excellent. Just went out towards cambridge yesterday, there is great coffeeshop to stop at.  Low traffic, only a few stop signs and just twisty enough to be fun but not straight on.  With the packers out your sundays are free now too  ;)

I really knew you don't keep it outside burlybear, I saw the nice set-up you had for working on it. I was tempted to pull mine out also the other day when temps hit 45 but the winds gusting to 18mph to change that idea.

Getting better even though i shoved a couple more in there. Plenty of room for improvement but no longer need two trampolines and a trapeze to get around it.

The brakes kept me in wonderland for a long time.  Were they off a F bike honda never released?  Where they from another brand?

From what I can tell they are stock off a 73.  The fork is a possibly a stock 73.  To do the dual disc conversion the original owner had to switch and reverse the lowers.  The brace one side sits backwards, with spacers added to make it fit.  Pretty imaginative!  Works too.
The fork lowers look just like the K1 lowers my bike came with. These use the "C" type mounting bracket. Since you mentioned spacers, it would indicate you have a modified left side bracket for use on the added right side disc, VS the aftermarket magnesium bracket that was fitted to my bike. Since the right and left fork legs have been switched, the modified bracket with the spacers is now on the left. Attached is a pic of a K1 leg on the left, with a later "T" bracket leg on the right.

Calipers were silver thru 71. Black from 72 onward. That brake mount style ran 69-72,but those legs look 71 or 72. 69/70nearly identical except the radius under seal area changed.

No turbo, but the headpipes did come from Magnum turbo,s..same as Cavebears.. I did it cuz I like the look and it allows the bike to be lowered another 3 or 4 inches, after you relocate sidestand mount.
It handled nice, had. Undampened springs on the back.. Way better than the stock frame runeven lower that it ended up in, after I sold the bike less motor.

Good to know, they were black when I got them.  I had them sand blasted after the sonic cleaner took most the paint off. Maybe it's a "betweener" the serial numbers match up to a 71 and that's what's on the title.

My seat latch is similar to a 72 as well.
