new petcock valve?
« on: January 13, 2013, 07:04:50 pm »
ive been trying to find a new petcock for my 76 CB550F tank... the parts list shows an image of a petcock with two nozzles coming out the bottom with a round threaded nut to fit the tank... of the petcocks i can find are the ones for later CB550s with a single nozzle so idont think this would work.. found some two nozzle but they have some kind of an oval shape where it mounts to the tank.. so this wont work.. and then i find one for a CB350 which has two nozzles and the threaded piece but im not sure if this will work or not...

any sources of finding a new petcock for this?

that says its for the bike but theres only one outlet.. in the parts manual it shows two, and on my caburetors i have a tee between carburetors 1+2 and 3+4, each with its own line leading to the fuel tank... the manual shows each fuel line going to the a two-outlet petcock.. it looks exactly like the petcock sold for the CB350

my manual shows this petcock http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB77-CL77-CB350-CL350-CB360-CB450-CL450-CB550K-DUAL-OUTLET-PETCOCK-/380538435122?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5899dbb632&vxp=mtr im not sure if thats the right size, if itll fit or not?

What is the size of the nipple on the tank, on the 550's there is 2 different sizes.  I have a 550 tank and a 350 fuel tap in my shed.  I can check for you tomorrow if you like to see if it will fit.

Check out this thread:

Yep, you're stuck with the weirdo, 2 year only, 19mm petcock. You can try the CB750 single outlet petcock I posted in that thread and run  "T", try making a gasket for yours (but I think that only seals to the tank....not fuel flow to the carbs), or pay about a hundred bucks for the correct one.

so this petcock was only used on 75-76 CB550s and never on any of the other bikes of any other years?... and with the 77-78 CB550s and CB750s, these had single outlet petcocks with a tee?.. is this right?

i cant find my calipers to measure the piece.. but its probably 19mm as you say.. i think later on, sometime after i move ill hack this off and weld on a more common thread size.. 18mm perhaps?... right now im wondering if i could use a thread adapter of some sort and use one of these cheaper, more common two-outlet petcocks?

The 550 tank I have in the shed has a 16mm outlet on it and the 350 fuel tap screws onto it.  However if you have the 19mm outlet then it won't do the job.

i found my calipers.. the piece of tubing coming from the tank was .8 inches (roughly 20mm) and between the threads at the lowest point i got .75" which is 19mm... so, it would appear i have a 19mm petcock.. so with this in mind ill need to find some kind of a thread adapter or use a tee with a CB750 petcock

Drop extra money on your year specific one or just plumb in a tee. It's straightforward just don't overthink it

i think i will just go for a tee for now... if i need something else later ill just weld on a new threaded bung.. so ill probably use a tee for now

I'm not sure what year the tank is from, but I think it is a '77 tank. ;)
