« on: January 13, 2013, 09:43:55 PM »
anyone with experience with carpy's exhuast? http://www.cb750cafe.com/products-page/exhaust/cb750-4-into-1-exhaust-sohc/  i believe he only sells these bare so it would have to be coated. how is fitment with it? would it work with a 78' cb750F model? and do we lose access to the oil filteR?

I had his pipe , and I liked it. It fit well, but you need to take it down for every oil change. I eventually swapped it for a stainless MOTOGPWERKS pipe. The moto pipe is a lot nicer, since it is stainless, and TIG welded. The moto pipe also is 3 piece, and held together with springs. This is good because when you need to get to the oil filter, you just pull the springs and never need to un bolt anything . But even at that, its still a little work to get the moto pipe apart. In all honesty though, unbolting the whole pipe from the head isn't really a big deal.

I have  the carpy on my 76 550. It  sounds absolutely  tuff with it on. I like the way  it looks, and hasnt been a problem  at all yet going on my 2nd season this year. Putting the headers on is a lil work, well at least for mine it is. And for the  price  it was perfect on my pocket.  I must say i do  like that rep yosh pipe very much and i did mark it for future  possible  changeups ;)

After doing some research I've narrowed down my list to these two systems, as they sound amazing.  Ceramic jet coat in white on carpys possible.

I have been contemplating between Carpy's and Motogpworks as well to replace my current unknown 4-1.  The only hesitation i have is that they are only connected to headers while my current one has a connection near rear sets to help support entire exhaust system.  So my question is do you guys think this is a valid concern? with all the vibration and bumps while riding, can this cause damage to threads without more support?

The MotoGPWerks 4-1 stainless pipe has a 6mm nut/nub welded on the pipe a few inches from the end of the silencer.  It matches up almost perfectly with the original rear exhaust hanger/passenger peg on my 76 550k.n  I just cut a small piece of metal an connected the two.  It is very discrete and holds it rock solid.  Without that hanger I personally would be concerned to have all the header and silencer weight pulling down and forward on the exhaust flanges.  The quality of the MotoGPWerks pipe is excellent and has the trick, custom retro-mod look I personally like.  Only problem is you kinda have to stay in touch with Chris to get in line for one.   Best to send him an email telling him you want one and be ready to move on it when he gets one together.

Try the Cycle Exchange exhaust. 4 into 2 into 1 and it allows changing of the oil filter.

Damn those motogpwerks pipes are so sexy! Thats what I want on mine! Raw stainless w/ the springs for easy removal.  I like more of a reverse cone though, aesthetically.

They may be twice as much but I'd bet you get what you pay for.  Plus Carpy just rubs me the wrong way.......jmo.

Could ya post a picture (from the side) showing the curtain effect of the four pipes?
Specifically interested to see if they align in a straight uniform manner.

Thanks

Yeah, I'll get a few pictures tonight when I get home (currently living about 60 miles from the bike).  I'll try to get a few different good angles for ya.  As far as a "straight uniform manner", as I remember it, from the front, pipes 2 and 3 come down at mirror angles with reference to the centerline of the bike.  I think 1 & 4 do as well, but I can't remember exactly.  The collector  is pretty centered under the bike so I'd bet they will be, but yeah, pics tonight

to me this looks even across the centerline, maybe slightly biased towards the left side of the picture, but this might not have been 100% straight on from the camera.

I'm running Carpy's pipe and I like it. It definately is loud, almost as loud as straight headers.  It sounds awesome though.

The fitment could be better since it is pretty tough to get on.

Also, I've done an oil change w/ it on although that was a pain.

Bang for the buck I think it's a pretty good deal.

agreed, getting them on from oil change  can be some work.  Ive done 3 oil changes since having  carpy ex and it is some colorful  language  u will be expressing.  The exhaust  is very  very  loud and agreed  it sounds flippin tuff.  Ive had 99% of misc people  say that cant believe  how that sounds and yes u will hear that blocks away. They  will know its u.  I love the exhaust  and i have the small baffel out,  i will put it back in but i like the sound  of it off..makes it sound very  very beefy

I have always tried to get people there parts on time and all I am doing is what I love, and that's playing with Cafe Racers, now Moto gp do not make the pipes at all, they get them made from power pro's and always have, they were in Anahiem and have just moved about 45 minuted north of here.
I just keep doing my stuff and have fun, but you cant please everyone and that's part of life.
But- not many people can say they love going to work and I do.
I have made many friends on here and I am sure enemies too, but, I have not been into motorcycles for 5 minutes, I have grown up with it and will always be into this stuff, I love what everyone makes and shows etc, its a fun and fantastic scene and all I can see is it getting stronger.
I am honest where I get my exhausts made and they used my Original Yoshi exhaust that i had on my Koppa bike as the template.
I have sold over 400 of them and still am with new designs for the cb750sohc, dohc and now 900 and 1000 Honda bikes are being made.

Just have fun building bikes people, this forum was a plethora of information on our machines and continues to grow, I even helped designed the logo for the forum, so if you like me or not, don't give up the fun of building bikes.
Life really is too short.

Let's show these nay-nay sayers and let me be the judge of the fine quality of these 4-1's.  What I say goes about this guys 8)

Carpy, you sending me a free one would expedite the judgement call in your favor, if not, this will have to wait till I get money and another bike to put it on and your competitor's pipes, which may be a long, long time.  So, unless you're prepared to wait for such a coveted opinion, time is of the essence!  ;)

Well i would take this with a grain of salt as there is bad blood between Chris and Carpy, besides I know of pipes that Chris has hand made and his new pipes he makes also, He also makes pipes for lots of custom applications and race teams, Chris is an engineer and has excellent credentials, its highly obvious if you have seen any of his custom builds or hand made pipes and are aware of who he has worked with and for. In saying that, stiff sh1t if he had an already successful design mass produced out of shop, he is a very busy guy and spends a lot of time away from his shop, and has better things to do than sit around all day and make 300-400 dollar pipes. We all benefited by being able to buy cheap pipes and the quality is high, so whats your point Carpy...?
