The rarest CB750 side cover emblems: 1978 CB750k
« on: January 14, 2013, 03:39:47 PM »
What is, in your opinion, the rarest side cover emblems?

Initially, one may say the 1979 CB750k Limited contains the rarest ones. However, you can always find them on eBay at any given time. My father got lucky and bought one in good condition for $25 last week.

I would have to say quite easily that the 1978 CB750k emblems seem to be the rarest breed. It's not even one that is made via reproduction, either. You can't find a single one in "completed listings" on eBay either.

Search for a 1977 CB750 Side Cover Emblem, and you get loads.

What friggen gives? The 1978 CB750k isn't a rare bike, is it?

I believe that there were fewer 78s than earlier years. It was the last SOHC.

I told you they were hard to do.  :P

I had a decal set that I got when I bought a tank.

Steve-O got the tank, flea bayed the decals. All I wanted was the lower gas tank moulding.  ;D ;D ;D

I think the early 1969 side cover emblems are rarer. Repops are not as good and I haven't seem an original sell in quite some time.

78k limited emblems? Not rare at all. Also not desirable and probably not worth my time to drive over to storage and dig through the box of emblems I have. See them swap meets all the time. I don't own a 78 anymore so I don't buy them. Fwiw the f emblems are rarer than the k And I was able to get new ones from DSS.

There are some Japan only cb750 models with way rarer emblems than what we are talking about.

Emailing about the post spacing of the 78 Supersport emblem. Matches the tank font so much better. If that isn't the same, then I'm snatching the 78k emblems.

I have the rarest diamond emblems.  :)

Both one piece and 3 piece.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I'm just doing the finishing touches on a '78 CB750K. Are these as rare as they say? Maybe I should hold on to it instead of selling it in the spring. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I still say the rarest. Not a single one on eBay yet....it's been 4+ months.

The Australian source would work, but I just found out that I have to use glue...UGH. Using glue on $100 reproduction badges? That leaves me sour. I want to use the standard badge fasteners.

I feel like adhesive should be used with broken emblems.

Plus, brand new paint? All I want is what's original. If I have to pay $42 an emblem, then I would expect to not have to use glue.

Since I have a few sets, some silicone worked for me.  If I want to change them out, I do not risk the the chance of breaking them and losing them forever becuase of those fasteners.

Problem is, can't find original, right?

Really has good suggestion, silicone. Can still be removed if necessary. I've used it on side covers before.

Wouldn't it be from one of the 750A models...maybe the last year...I think only around 1400 built.  All the others were built in the 10's of thousands.  Even the sandcast numbers were around 7000......not all that rare.  Desirability, value, availability aside in actual numbers existing one of the A models is what I would bet on.
