Mines coming to life.

Finally started putting this thing back together. In the process of putting the engine in I got a few nicks on the frame (too many) so I guess I will have some touch-ups. It's dusty still but you get the idea.

Motor isn't mounted I have to clean up the hardware.

I like mine the best.  8)

To be honest, they aren't the best looking models, but the right "retro" mods will make everyone turn their heads. Many people mistake mine for earlier year models. The trick is with the paint job (dislike the stock paint for these years), shrouded shocks (I don't like the pogo sticks), K1 bars (in-wire bars make for a cleaner design), and the '77 seat. The only thing I'm not fond of with the '77s are the cursive style lettering. I didn't like the side cover decals either on either year, I think simplier is better, like the earlier years.

And the red or blue pinstriping has to be removed and replaced with all gold. The above is what you end up with.

That has more to do with their lack of knowledge than the look of your bike, the K7, K8 are easily recognizable anywhere and look nothing like the earlier K models at all......

Black was the only good color IMO for these years, though I'm not sure why honda chose the red (or blue) stripe. I still prefer to have wires hidden at the bars. It really simplified stuff much more than I had anticipated. I love it!

I've been contemplating on adding the rear grab bar...(need to find one). I think the 77/78s are approaching "big enough" size without it, though. I'm not dead-set on it hurting the visuals of my build, but my girlfriend really wants me to install one when I ride two up with her.

So you think Honda should have made it one color? How boring would it be if they were all the same??
The last 3 bikes I painted were non-Honda colors, just so I could have something differant.
Keep in mind, we do not all think alike.

Damn, I thought everyone thought like I did! Maybe I shouldn't have gone as far to have put "IMO" :P

No, I'm saying that the colors produced in 77/78 were not impressive, especially compared to the earlier years.

Not everyone has to feel the same way. It is my opinion. You get Black or Maroon in 77/78. You get a much better pallete with earlier years (and they didn't have a funky red or blue stripe in the mix). But again like I said, black works well, especially with the red stripe. I had to pay $60 extra to get that colored stripe gold. Sucked.

But I definitely respect the bone stock bikes. You and tt have great looking examples.

The 77/78 supersports are actually the fastest, have the best handling and superior braking of the entire SOHC4 CB750 series.
Pretty comfortable seat, too.

I'm in love with this bike. The color scheme works well. The side cover emblems will really complete it though...the F versions aren't that expensive.

Maybe some day I will finally pick up a 77/78 Supersport. Craigslist had one locally...guy wanted $3,000 though.

I agree, the earlier colors were more impressive.  Honda felt they needed a change after six model years, hence the new tank for the K7 and a black paint choice. I love black, it's bad!
My fave Honda oil or was my '76 550F in Sapphire Blue, simply beautiful. Not available on a 750 but in Europe there was a similar color, Polynesian  Blue. I'm painting a tank for my K4 that color.

But to many, it's a Honda Four = It rocks.

I think, considering that they have a different tank,  sidecovers, pipes and  seat , which are all cosmetic changes, they look nothing like the earlier K at all and it doesn't take an expert at all to notice the differences, even the frame, back wheel, ignition, airbox, front forks, carbs and gauge layout are all different, bar the engine {and it has several changes} there's almost no parts that are shared with its earlier counterpart.
