I have bored many rods for larger pins.. Just curious if they were bored out goldens or newly designed, maybe closely resembling them.

The recess on the beam of the rod is on a different side compared to the Golden Rod.  I asked Ken about them once because he had a picture of them up on the site for a couple of years and he would never tell me anything about them he just said they are strong.  lol

It has to do with the small diameter pin not rotating enough which means less oil to the pin. My understanding lot of pro people (started in NASCAR I believe) are using the largest diameter pin available. The wall thickness can be decreased as well making the pin lighter. Similiar to modern bike wheel axles.
 The transmission being used is not a 1-2-3 auto....it is a 5 speed. The first 3 gears are auto with no ignition kill. 4 & 5 use a kill.
The piston pin bore was moved up to compensate for the extra stroke as opposed to short rods or a spacer plates.
 Hope that answers some questions (though it will probably lead to more).

 There is anther way on these types of cranks that is sometimes done, that is grind a smaller journal. Not saying anyone has done it on a 750 crank, but one guy in town here has done a lot of auto cranks this way. He built a 427 small block Chevy.!

The first 3 gears are auto. The last 2 gears are ignition kill. The system he uses is nice and simple....no solenoid.....it's off the neutral switch. The auto does not upset the bike with unloading the power with a kill.....when it really gets going the kill doesn't matter.
 I think some people think Kenny doesn't know what he is doing but he actually does.....he  has a pretty good handle handle on things.  ::) I'm sure many people on this forum...and others....know how to do it better......I guess. ::) And that is not aimed at you Scottly.

I guess I don't understand what is meant by "auto" in this case? I can't understand how a transmission can shift itself without some sort of electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic solenoid. (other than the centrifugal Husky auto)

SCOTTLY: Auto shift off netural switch on shift drum has been around for KZ FOR YEARS as V&H  and DALE WALKER [he ran 8'S foot shifting ] sold a few to me = what happens is you shift with your toe right thru the gears[ you do-not pull in the clutch after you launch in first gear ] every time your toe lifts the shift lever the netural shift button has extra holes drilled in it and this kills the 12 volts to the coils for a mili second [ you can adjust kill time with fiber washers behind netural switch to kill ever so light. You have a handle bar switch that turns this on or off...........  the V&H NUMBER FOR THE KZ90/1000j/GPZ is PT#13180 as I have one of these AUTO SHIFTS in my hands right now... won many DRAG races on my ZIR with this set up, no tanks, air pump,air lines, or buttons to worry about  1-2-3-4-5 down 1320' NO CLUTCHING set up and flip the off switch, did this about 400-450 times. Wished I could win that many rounds !!!!!!!

POPS,kind like that and what Jon said,but Mike got it correct. It's a 5 speed trans,1st 3 gears auto shift...with no igntion kill!!! What...that would take some STRONG gears,drum and forks!!!! Then 4th and 5th use igntion kill.Program the kill to come in @ 4 seconds,just for 4&5th.Also add neutral type detent in drum on 4th and 5th for ignition adjustment(retard)using electronics of course.Jay mentioned this regarding hi comp.domed pistons.
Heres a pic from Robinson Industries! 3 spd auto for Kawasaki! The gears ,fork,and drum all HIGHLY modified,cut ,weld,relocate!! Check out drum in pic!! ;D 8)

BILL: Tell them about lifting when bike gets out of control on the pass and you roll out of that wide open throttle = BANG broken tranny and back to ROBINSONS for new parts............. we had 123 autos in SUZUKI TURBO TG bike and only broke one heavy duty back cut, gears and shift forks. Ken better have a rider 8.90 on that SOHC that can aim straight at a good track w/no bumps like SGMP on the best DA of the month. He could try Englishtown and run in the tunnel = below sea level DA as I have seen it read -325' on my dial in computer at that track. Dale Walker did run 8.29's foot shifting [ elec. kill ] on a SUZUKI in California look on the net.

On a Kaw 1-2-3 auto, the dogs on the input gears are ramped so it shifts under load for the 1-2 shift and there is a spring pushing against the shift fork forcing the fork to push out of first to second. On 3rd input , the gear is split (cut in half/ seperating the gear from the fork slider)) and there is a spring on the shaft  pushing against the slider gear which causes the gear to push away for the 2-3 shift. All of this is done under a load(no kill) for the first 2 shifts. The shift drum is also modified to allow for the auto ( no kill) shifts. Subsequents shifts, the tranny is unloaded via electronics. Most 1-2-3 autos are like this except GS's were most of the modes are done to the drum and shift forks. I would guess the CycleX tranny is set up like the Kaw trannies are.

Mike, I know Ken is knowledgable about racing. He is doing this thing right from what i have seen and read. I wouldn't expect anything different from that shop. His reputation is riding on putting this bike down in the 8's. My comments were based on experience about drag race setups and small things that i have noticed that trip even veteran racers up from time to time. I'm not an expert but i will share the things i do know if i feel it will help. I'd be thrilled to death to see this bike throw down an 8 second all motor pass. Now knowing it will have an auto trans eases my mind about getting into the 8 with raw horsepower. That should be worth a tenth and a half off the ET. I hope i'm around to see it in person.

Well,I just spent about 30 minutes talking with Gary Pena! 8).........Drum rolll....Kenny,you go in the 8's on gas,you got the RECORD.Gary ran on purpose built for nitrous motor(Byron involved)at World Finals 9.03 on motor.They did to him what they did to Sam and I,yeh it's legai til you show up with it! :( Sorry,Gary ,no nitrous,had a 100hp shot),he said he'd pull 2-3 bike lenghts on Terry's Pro Stock Kawa launching,would really hook up well!!!That was on motor,I want a pic of that,leaving Terry at the lights!WOW! 8)
When he got to run the nitrous.....8.20-30's all day!!!!Falicon crank,Carrillo rods,1170cc.Big port head,.Gary worked at Yoshimura speed shop(manager!) in Ca.,then ATP(American Turbo Pak),still racing cars..and winning!! ;) ;D I told him about RC bikes and forum info.....stories to tell ,Pop's porting,plug reading etc.What a fun 30 minutes!!!I got to email him later and call back on Friday!
