Yes. It basically eliminates the cush drive. It has been discussed in the past.

Mike, was any of that data posted on this site?? I'd like to look further into it myself. I doubt i'll push the envelope of the clutch basket on my no bar set up but it won't hurt to reinforce any weak links in the drive line before it becomes a problem.

At the V-Twin show in Cincinnati this past weekend I talked to the BARNETT REP about the billet clutch basket they have for SOHC 750, why weld when you can buy a stronger than stock basket ??? They have DEEP CRYOGENIC TEMPERING aluminum drive plates treated at minus 300 degrees then , hard anodized for added durability. One third the weight of steel plates for less rotating mass and quicker throttle response = a drag racers dream ..................... but not any for the SOHC/4  750CC HONDA. Get a large order up and maybe they would stamp out a few hundred sets, I'll ask at INDY.

Not talking about the basket....talking about the primary cush drive system. Welding the cover to the hub so there is no movement. Mark McGrew talked about this and pics of RC units have been posted. It does put more of a strain on the chains etc. Kind of like aftermarket rims with no cush drive system.

The solid welded primary was on their race bikes. Their mod for Hi-Po street bikes was to weld the 2 primary sprockets together to try to prevent a weak chain from taking both of them out. Still used the dampers but for both sprockets simultaneously instead of the stock "dual floating" arrangement.

Hmmm, i think i'd rather the primary cush fail than have a chain slap aloose inside my cases. I'll leave it alone for now. With the suspended no bar set up and a street tire some driveline dampening might be advantageous versus the CycleX build where he will be leaving full throttle off a 2 step with a set of wheelie bars and a 7" slick. I'm doing away with the cush drive rear wheel and going with the solid PM Chicane race wheel.

If the CycleX bike is making its debut in Indy, I might have to adjust my schedule to participate in that race. Mike, do you intend to be there???

Usually if the primary cush fails, the primary chains break and knock a hole in the cases.

I usually go for a RIDE in August. Say anywhere from 2000 miles to 5000+ miles. Maybe I should just get a hitch for the Fat Boy and bring the Honda along...... :o

SEMI CUSH :  We filled the cush drive rubbers with silicone then swished the drive hub in and wiped off the over flow, for a semi- solid rear wheel with a little shock for the all.... broke a few RK630HD chains leaving at [ 9800-10,000 rpm, throw out the clutch on the two step ,red springs shimmed ] that went out the back and one that broke the shift shaft and case cover on ZIR. Speaking about baskets you do ding the fingers and make the disc stick in and out, de-burr finger, check tabs on disc weekly for Bracket ET bike.... on any PRO BIKE every pass.

Jay, not sure.I'll find out. Your name did come up! ;).He's racing a Nova street car these days....9.20's!! He still had the 750 engine until he sold it to another old school dragracer, just a couple years ago. He's going to look for some pics for us. 8) Bill

Gary called today. Had a great conversation catching up.  Also talked with Kenny about the bike.

Interesting idea but househols silicone is still pretty compressible. Don't get me wrong Pops...it was an idea to solve a problem....I appreciate that. Breaking a 630 is a bit F'd up but it was the 1880's. ;D I'd smooth, bead blast and cyro a steel basket....it will last a long, long, long time.
