What the heck whats one more CB!!!
« on: January 15, 2013, 07:41:38 PM »
Picked this one up today, mix of original (tank, side covers, tool kit) and aftermarket (Pods, bars, exhasut, hard bags).  Looks clean, and is a runner.  Needs tires bad but seat, tank, exhaust are in good shape.  Will have to wait till spring to go through it and get it running but psyched.

Exactly, I don't have too many bikes, my shed just isn't big enough ;D.  I am seriously running out of workshop space.  If I want to work on one of the bikes I need to move a car out.  I have an area 20' by 10' with only bikes and bike parts in it.

Totally lucked out.  Co-worker lead me to this one, he knows I ride "vintage hondas", it was just sitting in a three sided barn.  It was kinda of in and out of the elements but just abandoned and going to rot, so feel like I rescued it.  I don't know if miles are accurate, but it looks reasonable to assume they are, bike does need a bath but no leaks or real glaring issues.  Needs tires, prob put the rear lights back on and ditch the hard bags, getting running right and then sell it. Put that money back into the project and the runner.  Anyway plenty of time to figure that out since January thaw is over and we're back to winter here in VT.

I feel your pain................I too had to go for this 1978 CB550 with only 10650 miles. Exhaust is rusted out, minor rust all over and an oil leak from output shaft or shifter seal.

Magilla I think under normal circumstances somewhere between $1200 to $1500 maybe $1800  on a good day if the miles are indeed accurate.  I payed considerably less but their are some extenuating circumstances.  I think after winter storage,Uhaul rental, tires, and tune I'll be into it less than $1000.  I'd say you could definitely pic one up cheaper hear in VT than MA but then you can always get lucky and be in the right place.

I guy I know drove this over to my shop,a 350, during a big snowstorm 2 weeks ago,did a bunch of doughnuts in my parking lot to show me it worked and sold it to me for the pricey sum of $100.00.He paid $30.00 for it at an auction with less than 10,000 miles on it. There are still very good deals out there, especially off the net.  ;)
