Changing front brake lines 1975 cb400f
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:37:24 PM »
My current ones are dry rotted. So I figured I'd changed em, ha. Anyone have a site they recommend or if they're near Orlando, a place they'd recommend to get lines? Also should you change the brake pipe at the end of the bottom hose with the hoses too? Or just let that be? Or replace only if it needs it? And just so I've got em right anyone got their measurements available? Of the hoses.
Also this is my first time changing lines on a bike. What's the best for a commuter bike? Stainless steel braided or normal or some third thing?

Forum member pampadori runs slingshot cycles.  Great braided lines for our bikes.  They have what you need. Check out their website....email him if you don't see what you need, or need something custom.

Go for slingshot cycles he is a good guy and the lines are top notch

The price difference between original and the stainless is little and the extra confidence and slight improvement is worth it. Depending on who is trying to rob you his stainless lines may be cheaper

I will admit I reused my stock steel line but think about it like this. Brake lines rust from the inside, not just the outside. It would be bad if that line finally gave up on your panic stop and now you couldn't stop. Hit up auto zone with your brake line and compare it to the pre made lines they have, you will find a match. if you don't have line wrenches cut the line at the fitting and use a socket to take the sucker out, so much easier than trashing the fitting

Don't trust me alone with a claw hammer and some pliers

Slingshots guy it is for hoses. I'll check about maybe getting a line wrench to borrow. But that parts just standard hose piping cool.

Ok so for $65 (minus 15% discount) these are it?

These are the right length and all that?
Brake lines are hard....

Also Anyone know where to get the indicator light bulbs for cheap? It's $5 at autozone for 2  12v 3.4 W bulbs but the glass part is a little bigger. I haven't seen any 3.4 W exactly the same as the ones in there now and I was just wondering if anyone found them for cheaper.

And the chain size is 530, right?
