Help ID this drive chain
« on: January 18, 2013, 07:59:41 PM »
I need to get a new master link for this beast.  It is not a standard chain, has o-rings, but it is fatter than most chains.  My local shops do not have anything to fit it:

What bike and year is it on? Maybe a 630? 77-78?

Ha ha!   ;D Thanks guys.

Well, I tried a 630 master but the pins were too short to rivet the plate on.  I had a '78 and remember the 630 chain being large but this beast is chunky.

If it was a standard 630 then the pins will be too short, you will need an o-ring chain specific link.  They are a little longer to allow for the o-ring.

I agree two 630 master link pins sounds like you have the short non o-ring link.

I just ordered a 630 o-ring master.  When no shop in  town seemed to have something that fit I believed it was some kind of odd ball chain.  Nothing else on this bike is stock, and the PO didn't pass on any info.  Thanks again fellas!

First I would do is mike the pin, seems to be a lot of variance in pin sizes and withs, once you get into O &X ring chains.

That is good advice 754.  Problem is the online sources don't show the size of the part so all I can do is order a couple and measure the new when they get here.  At least master links aren't expensive, just a PIA.

go to your local bike shop or cyclegear that way you can see the links then you won't have to wait.
