crank bearing-plastigage cb750 k4
« on: January 20, 2013, 05:39:51 AM »
I am a repeat engine CB750 k4 and today was the Plastigage operation ...
Here are the results
case BBBBB
Crankshaft (BCCCC) central crank pin
rod HHHH 2222 (4554) central crank pin
pads can not see colors, but marking a 4x std-AP20 D3E and 1x D3L
therefore colors Green, Brown, Brown, Brown, Brown ... I think ...

Plastigage reading from 1 to 5  = .050mm .050mm .063 mm .050 mm .050 mm
then with the readings, I change the No: only number 3 or all 5 colors and for what???
rmt on it says to replace
at over .08 mm

If I listening M.honda he told me to replace the bearing with the same
colors, so have bearing that are worn out and not the crankshaft ...
and I would find the original dimensions between .02 and .046mm ...
I have always believed that the crankshaft and the bearing that worn out and that have increased
layers with different colors of bearing to catch the required standard.

What do you think?

Interesting dilemma... I would like to hear what more experienced builders have to say.

But while we wait, I'll throw in my thoughts:

Per Hondaman's book, he states you are fine if they are all under 0.056mm... but one of yours is 0.063.  If you replace that one with a black shell it should bring them all pretty close (I think... I'm still having trouble confirming the step for each shell size - I think it's 0.01mm.)  Having the measurements close seems like the best idea so that the oil pressure will be the same across them.

How many times have you measured the clearances?  On my engine build, I'm having a difficult time getting repeatable plastigage measurements.  Your one large reading may be in error... you may want to take the measurements a few more times.

Also, how many miles does your engine have?

Good Luck
