'70 CB-750 REredo
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:08:48 PM »
Had my long sitting CB hauled into my local Honda shop to get her as nice as po$$ible.

The Parts Mgr. managed to find a set of repopped stock exhausts from Japan. With the heat shields they cost slightly more than the bike did when new! A solid state ignition has replaced the points, carbs rebuilt and new "Candy Blue-Green" paint is to be mixed up and applied.

Also, a new repro seat cover, with new foam will be applied by RENAZCO out West. They do excellent work, as evidenced by my DR 650 saddle and redone '68 S-90 seat.

I'm really looking forward to riding her come Spring. Of course, our forecast for tonight is down around 0F, but with possible Lake Effect snow...whoopee......DFO  ;)

Do you know where he was able to get the new exhaust from? I thought Honda discontinued production and NLA.

Welcome to the forum, I too am surprised a Honda dealer in this area would touch anything older than 2003!  Will be looking good with those pipes.
36 years of this stuff, here to help.

My Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki dealer love$ the color of my money!  I've paid his "light bills" for many years, by both buying bikes and redoing old ones now that I'm not able to do it myself anymore.

Their parts Mgr. is even better at digging up old parts than I am. He found the repro exhaust pipes at some place in New England, but don't remember their name. The pipes WERE made in Japan and they are stamped so it is obvious they are repros. Given their price...owch! OTOH, better than my rusty old ones which were HM 341s as the original HM 340s were long gone from rust.

I did locate, from Germany, a set of correct repro tank decals which should make respraying the tank easier.  DFO  :)

Yes it is well used: a bit over a year ago my '68 S-90 was in residence on it. We built one good bike from 2 bikes, plus assorted parts I'd managed to find.
The bike is actually built around the $10.00 abandoned one I bought from a farmer over a decade ago. The total bill to get the one operational S-90 was a bit in excess of $2600!

Compared to my CB-750 that will be CHEAP! The new exhaust system for the CB was over $1300.00.  DFO  :o

Nice bike. Is the one you posted in the lets see your sohc thread this bike? If so, it looks great. How come you plan to repaint? Any other pics of it prior to tear down?

The color is WRONG....not Candy Blue-Green, but after $pending $$$ it should be!  Painter is to mix up and spray a color sample for my OK. Hopefully he will get it right, the first time!

Yes, that's my bike on the trailer going to the shop.

Back when I semi-fixed the bike I could see and do the work; now after a botched hip replacement 14 months ago plus eyes that are slowly going from tooooo many years doing ID work on my computer: I must pay for others to do the work for me.

Sure am looking forward to having her back, running and looking GR8 so I can ride her again come Spring!  DFO  :)
