proper riding gear works
« on: January 23, 2013, 07:11:36 AM »
It is winter and we had a saturday of 45 degrees F and My son took my old 750 automatic for a short ride. Our roads are prefectly dry but covered in road salt. He was making a slow ( but quick ) left turn when the rear slid out and he got his first real taste of rocky road. Luckily He is fine with a bruised ankle and other small bumps and bruises. Very lucky for sure. He had his riding boots, Armored jacket and helmet on so he got away with minor damage. The proper riding equipment likley helped him a whole bunch. The helmet and jacket both have some damage especially the elbow and back armor. He was so mad at himself and so surprised how quickly it happened. The bike is not so lucky but can be repaired . The roads are not good this time of year.

Ride safe and wear the proper equipment It really can pay off .

Complete agreement here!

My son lives in Denver (they haven't used anything but liquid chemicals yet). He is young and stupid - he had to learn the hard way that he can't ride when it has been snowing or is wet and starting to freeze!  Although I've bought him safety gear - he refuses to wear them.

I figure it's only a matter of time - he'll either mature, get injured, or both (pain is a good teacher).

Glad you boy is OK.  Hope the cycle damage is slight.  Did you have engine guards on the bike?

I Did not get engine guards/case savers on this one yet so I will be looking for an alternator cover, turn signal, and spedo chrome lower rings. On a positive note there is no clutch lever to get broken. I believe case savers can still be bought from someone on Ebay.

Hope your son gets the idea of the proper riding gear soon too. We were lucky and alls well.
