Question regarding filling CB750 gauge pots with oil
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:41:07 PM »
I have a question about filling the pots of the CB750 gauges with 30,000 viscosity silicon oil. I read that storing these gauges face down could cause the oil to run out of the pot and stain the face plates. How do you reassemble the gauges without positioning them face down to re-crimp the ring? Wouldn't the oil seep out and stain the new faces while trying to re-assemble the gauges?

I wonder if anyone knows. I've read many threads on the topic of re-filling the pots but nothing on preventing the new oil from getting back on the faces again - especially during re-assembly... I think I'd rather have a jumpy tach than get oil all over the face plate again.

Hi mycb,

...no problem to put em with the face down for reassembling.
The oil will take much more time to get out the pot but don't
store them with the face down for some days or weeks
AND DON'T OVERFILL THE POT!!!

Good luck...Georg

Thank you for that reply.

Would you mind explaining how to get the pot apart again. I followed all the directions here but when it came time to open my pot, I can't figure out how to get it out. I've taken everything apart that I could but the pot, spring and needle are still in the supports.

Yes, that is it. I hadn't noticed the circlips before. That must be the trick?
