question about center stand installation
« on: January 22, 2013, 05:38:37 AM »
I have a 1973 CB500,   The previous owner  had removed the center stand,   but  kept the parts to give to me.   I  tried to install  it back on the bike and i just had a question.
the  "C"  shaped metal  bracket that the spring attaches too  looks  like it just goes on a hook that is welded on the frame.    Is there  anything else that keeps that 'C'  bracket on ?    i  thought maybe there should be some kind of cotter pin or something but didn't see anything.  Is that it ?   it just slides over that hook ??

Also there was a small metal plate, like 1 x2,  that looks like it attaches to one of the mounting bolts and keeps the stand from  going up to high,  is that right ??

thanks.

On 750 the moon shaped piece just slides on, it stays there just fine.

No cotter pin.  The tension from the spring will keep it in place, because it will attach to a leg opposite the open side of that hook...it gets pulled in the closed direction IIRC.
