Progressive fork springs for a CB500?
« on: January 22, 2013, 01:19:47 PM »
I'm looking at a used set of Progressive fork springs, part # 76-1106.
 They're listed to fit:

"This Item Fits the Following Applications:
     Honda

    CB550F, 1974-1978
    CB550K, 1974-1978
    CB750A, 1976-1982
    CB750C, 1976-1982 "

I thought the CB500 and 550 shared the same forks. Why does Progressive start listing at 1974? Would these fit in early '71-72 CB500 forks?

CB500 fork internals are different.  I ended up ordering springs from RaceTech to fit the CB500.  Progressive reps said they couldn't help me with springs for my CB500.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know.

Here's a link to a pretty good deal on a set for the 550/750.

The '71 through '73 500 uses cartridges in the forks, and the spring is a small diameter affair captured on the damper rod. If the spring is too soft for your liking, cut two 1/4" length pieces of PVC pipe about the same OD as your spring, and mount them on top of the springs, under the top spring keeper nuts. If it's still too soft, try 1/2" lengths.
