Not sure if I would use the standard FT triple or get a GL1000 triple and swap out the stem. The FT has a large gauge and idiot light setup and I don't know what the triple looks like without that stuff. Part of the details I would need to solve.

The GL would be nice IF the spacing between the forks is the same for the Sabre. If so, you could even replace the top triple with the more robust and cleaner DCC upper triple clamp. The stock GL clamp is a little on the clunky looking side and has tall risers. You won't need those with clipons. Also DCC sells bracket that mate their triple to the stock gauge bracket.

KrautKoffin thinks he has the slowest 550 build thread; he's clearly an amateur at working slowly.

Today I cut out the remains of the petcock attachment point, which a PO had mostly cut off for no clear reason. I got a weldable 3/8" internal threaded bung from eBay a few weeks ago to replace it. Now I just need to get the tank to a welder to have the bung TIG or brazed in.

Looks like the Ascot shock mounts are further forward that the 550 and are shorter, possibly?  Are the swingarm width for the frame going to match up? Or be possible to bush? If it is too wide that poses a problem unless you are going to get creative with the frame of your 550 some how.

The Suzuki GS1000 is featured in this month's Motorcycle Classics and it has a nice set of alloy wheels with cutout pattern that is similar to the Ascot. Must have been a similar trend along that timeframe.

I like the idea of putting the Ascots wheels on the 550 and hope it is a doable thing. That could be a cool way to have alloy wheels and a little more distinctive looking ride.

As far as I can tell the length and width of the Ascot swing arm is the same as the CB550. Another member here measured for me.

Time to wake this thread back up. Since I bought a ready to ride '75 550F last year I didn't need to do anything on this one. But today I picked up a couple pieces to my SuperSport Tourer concept: 2 complete Hondaline fairings from V45 Sabres with windshields, mounting brackets, mirrors and even Honda branded volt meter and altimeter (!). All for $150

Since I happened to have a spare frame, tank, and seat here at the condo (doesn't everyone?) I thought I would do a basic mock-up.

It really needs bars, gauges and a windscreen for the full effect, but this is interesting.

The fairing looks about a foot too high IMO.  But I have seen a lot of bikes in Japan like that.

I think it is riding a little high...
Your headlamp would be 6-8 inches higher than normal wouldn't it?
Most mount systems have them riding lower than that, at least for the Vetters and Hondalines I have seen. You can extend your headlamp and turn wiring system to work in that... 
Having a motor in it will change the looks as well as the front wheel...

It is a different look.  Look forward to seeing it in Dolores. You may want some lowers if you consider riding it in cold weather...  Doesn't look like it will protect/redirect from the seat down...

Decided to update my thread title since I know what I am doing, although initially I will be doing it to my 550F runner and not the project bike.

Still, I have 2 fairings and after I spend the rest of April recovering from a couple months of underemployment I plan to look for a CB650 engine to put into my titled roller frame and hopefully by the end of July have a running more powerful version that I can use for my ride from Chicago to Dolores, Co for the inaugural SOHC4 Family Reunion 8/15-8/17.
