Two tone paint question
« on: January 26, 2013, 05:52:58 AM »
I plan on doing a cream paint job with dark brown accents on my build. Then I am going to clear with Spraymax 2k. My question is this. If it were to do a cream tank with brown stripes, do I lay the brown first and just tape over it to make stripes, or do I lay the cream first and tape off the whole tank to do the stripes?

Brown over tan, light colors first.  Wet sand both lightly, clear coat.  Sounds nice.

Seems so easy to paint brown and then lay a stripe with tape, but dark over light makes more sense

You can get away with light over dark but the light will always be tainted.  Even mixed primer shades make light colors look like they don't match.

GET GOOD TAPE.
Green 3M Auto Performance Tape.
tape residue sucks!   >:(
...but i recovered it  ;D

give yourself at least 4 coats of the Spraymax 2K....you'll be able to wet sponge it with 2500grit to get out any remaining peel , and then glaze it to a perfect shine.  and wear a good breather....that 2K  isht is nasty. :o

Dark over light it the best method.  You can do light over dark but it tends to take more coats and you can end up feeling the stripes when your done.

Another thing to consider is how the brown will look over the white.  All paint looks different depending on the color under it.  Brown over white will look different that brown over gray primer.
