Back in the fold

I picked up a '77 CB550F tonight. I seem to have a thing for '77 Hondas as this is my second '77 550 and I also have a '77 Goldwing.

As you will see from the pictures, it needs a little work.

Whats the story on that Dan,was it someones resto project that got shelved ? Looks like it will be like putting a big model together. Good luck on it.  Eric

A guy that restores bikes on the side. He has a co-op shop with some friends near the Wisconsin border. He mostly does Harleys. Apparently he picked this one up as a project a while back and then decided he just didn't want to do anything with it.

I paid him $160 for it. It looks like it is all there except for the air box and original exhaust, but it doesn't have a title. Still, for that price I can afford the hassle of getting a title.

I have plans for a cafe (naturally, who builds anything else these days) and so was looking for a project bike that I wouldn't be afraid to modify, unlike my previous 550 that was far too nice and original to do anything but leave alone.

Yep that is the perfect candidate for a coffee bike and a great entry price as well. Sell a few extra bits you won't use and its almost a freebie.

Looks like the 73 Bonneville 750 I bought last year. Some assembly required! Still haven't got to it yet. Good luck with your build. Cougar

Thanks. I started a thread over on the Project board. I gave myself 135 days from today to have it ready for the Vintage Motorcycle Days at Road America in June.

Danny welcome back! When you head up for vintage days; a group of us go. Maybe you can swing by and ride with us if you like. I have a 550F rear fender if you want it.

Thanks Nick. I'm going this year regardless, if the 550 isn't ready there is always the GoldWing or the MG.

I am good fender wise. I know I have a speedo and the carbs are all there. I will did into the box-o-parts Saturday and do a proper inventory.
