Adjusting the front wheel on a CB550F
« on: January 23, 2013, 05:55:15 AM »
How tight should the axle nuts be when you are ready to put the assembly back on the bike?  If I tighten the nuts very much I get  resistence when I spin the wheel.  Should I tighten it until just before I feel resistence? Any help is appreciated.

Did you follow the factory manual instructions about using the feeler gauge between the inside brake disc and the rotor before tightening the left fork legs bolts?  Not doing so can cause the rotor to drag on the brake.

brake pads contacting the rotor? be sure to loosen this assembly before you torque your axle nut.
(sorry, i dont know the torque spec for the 550)
then, set your slave pad distance. you might have to press in the piston and pad on the outboard side for some wiggle room....

According to Honda's shop manual, the front axle nut should be tightened to 55-65Nm / 40-47lbs-ft.
Did you change the wheel bearings? If so and the wheel does not turn without dragging (off bike, axle nut tightened), your bearings might not be aligned properly.
Also, the speedo gear will bind if not aligned correctly to the notches in the hub.

I am going to disassemble the wheel in stages.  Remove the brake and check for resistance.  If its still there remove the wheel nd check the speedo alignment.  I have gotten alot of good suggestions and If I remeber right the wheel was resistant when I put the speed on and it is probaly mis aligned .  Thanks to everyone.
