My name is John from Central Illinois. I am going to be taking the Motorcycle Safety Riding course this spring and hoping to get my license before Summer hits. The motorcycle I am so very lucky to have is my father's 1977 CB400F2. He purchased this bike 2nd hand in 1981 2 weeks before I was to be born. I remember going on rides with him as a kid, hugging the gas tank while he rode. It was a lot of fun. He's since then moved on to bigger cruiser bikes. Currently, he's finishing up a full restoration of a 1974 AMF Harley Davidson FLH1200, another somewhat rare bike due to the big workers strike from that year, and matching 1973 AMF Harley Davidson badged sidecar.
Known fixes for the 400 is the Carb rebuild, which we will be getting to as soon as the AMF is completed. Carbs are already out, just need to purchase the rebuild kit and clean them up a little. Front brakes lock up, and the gauges seem to jump a little when the bike is running. When my dad purchased the bike, the previous owner had repainted the bike to a more maroon color. I plan to have it repainted back to original red, even going so far as to use the correct metallic base coat. Other than the paint and an aftermarket muffler from the 80's, the bike is completely original. Little or no rust on the entire bike. It even has the original tires still. The bike only has 8000 original miles on it. I believe the last time the bike was started would be maybe the mid or late 90's. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the bike currently. Next time I am visiting them, I'll be sure to get some pics for everyone to see.
