"Project Eleanor" '75 CB500T
« on: January 19, 2013, 07:24:08 PM »
Just picked up this CB500 for free! It has (had) a seized motor caused by rusted pistons. I just got it home on Friday. I currently have the top end off and am planning to do a full rebuild. My only problem.... I just started getting familiar with the sohc4's... this motor looks totally foreign to me. I will also be posting this project on the Honda Twin forum.

Here's my plan of attack for the motor:
• Lap valves
• Clean up pistons and see if they're reusable
• New rings
• Hone cylinders
• Replace all gaskets
• Split cases and see what needs to be replaced (If anything)
• Get new hex bolt kit for all engine hardware
• Then all general maintenance (Set timing, valve clearances, etc.)

Am I missing anything?? Here's some pics of the progress so far:

Nice project. 500T's are not common.

If you haven't already, post your questions in the "other Bike" topic. I know there are several 500T guys who post regularly their.

I don't know if I've ever heard a 500T run. Probably has a pretty unique sound.
