What model Cb 750 do I have?
« on: January 26, 2013, 06:40:05 AM »
First I have to say I have been on the Honda Chopper site and done my research. I was told it is a 1975 K5.  I need to be sure as I have some transmission work to do and I have read that my bike could have two different transmissions depending on VIN.  The engine label is 750E-243651, which would be for a 1976 K6.  The frame label is 750F1010604, which would be a 1975 F0.  I talked to the guy I bought the bike from and he was insistent it was a 75 K5, but the numbers don't match.  I honestly don't care if it is a mix.  I need to fix a first gear slip and want to buy the correct parts.  Can anyone help?

Based on the website it looks like a K5, but the motor serial number does not jive.  This is a picture of my bike

I also get K6 as the engine.  I am not feeling F0 on that frame though. http://www.hondachopper.com/engine/engine_timeline/timeline.html

At this point the frame number is pretty much irrelevant.  Unless the PO bought it new he has no idea what has happened to the bike.  Go by the engine number.  Good luck with it.

One other thing. Have you checked the clutch out well on that, maybe it is your problem if your getting a "slipping".Usually gears either go in or pop out and first gear on these bikes are pretty tough, its usually second gear that can be weakest and then fourth. Something to check before a big teardown  ;)

Maybe a 1975F frame number?

I find my bike very easy here. European Direct 1976 where both frame and engine fits in the number range.

Lumberjack: Can you post up the frame numbers that are stamped into the frame, which are located on the left side of the frame. I’m not so sure that the riveted VIN data/label tag on the right side of the frame is the correct one.

I think you have a FRAKENBIKE there!!!
1. The engines are pretty much interchanegable throughout all the years with a slight change in sprocket offset in the 77/78.
2. It takes some mods to get the tins from a K to fit an F model frame,, NOT the same body style!
3. IF it is a CB750F , the number on the left side of the neck area will start with CB750F and if the numbers on the neck don't match the ID plate on the right side, something ain't right!!!

It looks like my 75 K5 is a 76 K6.  That matches the engine.  Can someone tell me why they would change the vin plate or do I not want to know?

Thought that frame fit the body parts to good to not be a K frame.Do you have a title and if so does it match the vin plate. Pretty obvious if the stamped number is different than the plate #'s that someone did a switcharoo to make it a 'legal' bike. Could be some real legal issues involved with that possibly or definately hurts the resale value to someone concerned about that.
