76 cb 550f cafe-ish

got a 76 cb 550f that cost me $20 in gas to pick up n thats it..lol..im finally working on now that i got money freed up....cleaning it up lil an polishing parts..gonna do make a cafe style pan seat..make a side mount license plate holder...ditching air box for pods..relocating electrics..clip ons..no turn signals...gas tank that came with it has alot rust in the tank..im thinking of making something lil different an maybe show off the back bone of the bike...id like to do rear sets but depends on money...still deciding on what to with gauges...gonna do kick start only with a hidden killswitch...exhaust im gonna have 2 make my own collector pipe cuz of rust holes then step back n look n figure out what muffler looks best..hope to have done round may or june...i work a screwed up work schedule an money limits me so what i can make im gonna...

so i got an idea...i have some parts from an 05 cbr 600rr..swingarm n stuff an realized i have the right side rear sets...think im gonna make a mount an use it an get the left side 1 an do the same..this pic isnt exactly where its going but ya get the idea

got my clipons ordered and found left side rearset from 97 cbr900rr that will work perfect...ill have a total of $40 invested in my rearsets..not bad at all

well here is a pic of my rear sets...brake side is from an 05 cbr600rr the shifter side is from a 97 cbr900rr..got a points cover on the way...now i gotta go measure the forks n figure out how much im gonna lower it...next year im thinking cbr forks so i wanna be close on the rear shocks if i can so i dont gotta buy anther set..been working nights so i aint done much 2 the bike

my shocks showed up today 9 1/4" rfy...thats 3 1/4" shorter then stock

going over my forks...got progressive fork springs, fork seals an dust caps on the way...found a tank that looks good an will be easier to mount then the fire extinguishers...still shopping round for a headlight i like

Why would you want to use shocks that much shorter? Are you going to lower the front too?

im lowering the front also...well sliding the forks through the triple trees anyways...i may have 2 bump it up an inch depending on clearance issues...progressive springs an lil heavier weight oil to stiffen it up lil bit

I am glad that you found a tank, it'll look way better than bright red fire extinguishers, gotta tell ya, I 'm not a fan of the brass and copper ones either.
  Looks like your off to a good start now, there are few things as treatable as UTS (ugly tank syndrome), some of us get it and don't even realize we have it. Did a friend tell you or were you able to diagnose this on your own? Doesn't matter, you're cured!
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

lol i worked a alotta overtime..won a $200 raffle n taxes just came in...i was gonna use the fire extinguishers cuz they were free n something diff...i was gonna shave the flat base off the fire extinguishers so the ends were rounded n paint a diff color but plain n simple that tank is alot easier to mount....ive been keeping n eye on ebay for something n that popped up...still searching for a nice antique headlight though...i just ordered new dyna coils, points and condensers last night...im thinking of painting the frame hammer tone...still not sure of the color of the tank n stuff

well between all the parts ive ordered so far im up to $930...still gotta order my front n rear wheel n neck bearings..they aint bad just i wanna start new..need to do seat pan n tail light..an of course paint..im pretty set on black hammer tone for the frame n lower fork leg...tank, fender an pan im between a dark ish green or burnt orange like what was on a triumph i had..oh n i might have 2 rebuild my master cylinder not sure bout caliper either...n maybe buy an exhaust system if i cant fix mine...lots of parts will be showing up next week n i go on 8 days off so im gonna get into it...its looking like im gonna be atleast $1500 deep in this before im through

sweet...mini speedo..bracket..red plug wires...dyna coils...jets...fork seals..fork dust covers...clip-ons...speedo cable...spark plugs...headlight n mounts...fork springs...points n condensers are all here now...just ordered my velocity stacks, a nice clutch lever mount an a side feed throttle set up..all from dime city cycles...im gonna use the master cylinder from a cbr...set pan..exhaust..tail light n a new chain r only parts left to figure out...then start mounting, polishing parts n lil bit of paint...think i said already gonna be no mirrors or blinkers...i was building this for a beater for work n it just seems like it keeps going lil further n further..lol..now time to get my lazy ass in gear n get the motor out n forks off

Where did u get the shocks from I've been looking on eBay and the web can't find any like that
