Watching with interest!

The floor in the shop is brutal.
Shop floor mats are worth the money in any weather.

You can get them in a variety of density/toughness/textures/materials.

I went without them for years and now I'd never go back.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

It's not my shop, but maybe since he's been letting me use it I will buy him some.
The eBay fairy came today and I got my seat back for cheaper than he quoted me.
And it looks awesome. Pictures after my couple hours tonight.

You don't need a lot of it to make a huge difference when working around a bike, or standing at a bench.  Hooking up the shop owner sounds like a great idea. :)

I just started reading this thread, and I am interested to see how it comes out. I'm also doing a no-budget build. Well, except for tires, and neck bearings, and spray paint...

Oh BTW, it was these guys that named us click-click-click-click-click. I voted for Bon Scott.

HELLO HELLO
Alright, so I drug my feet around the house to wait and see if any deliveries showed up and it did. I ended up getting my clutch lever and grips.
I just went with jackhammers and a shiny lever so to make matching easier. The jackhammers look good and are fairly comfy.

for those keeping track, these two pieces cost 23 dollars.
So, on tuesday, I went and dropped my seat off at a recommended shop. I was told to expect to spend between 75-100 dollars. He called me around 1 to make sure I was coming to get the seat. I went down there without cash and asked and he said "si, cash only"
SO i went to the closest liquor store and got 60 bucks out because yesterday he told me 50.
I get back and he's waiting in the doorway with it and i reach out and hand him the 60 and am turning the seat over in my hands admiring it and waiting on change.
He pulls out his overstuffed wallet and i see a couple dozen 20 dollar bills and he goes, "you have change?" Well, no, but i guess i could go around the corner and break it. He goes to hand me back a twenty and tells me not to worry about it. I pull my pocket change out and offer him the 4 dollars and he takes it.
a huge thank you and i was running out of the garage before he could change his mind.
When I went in he said "motorcycle?"  I said yes. "1/4 more foam, diamond tuck, black vinyl, glued and carpet bottom.
Heres what I got for $44

MANNY, shushy.
Anyway. When I got to the shop my partner in crime was already working on the fork lowers. I took the caliper outside and brake clean and wire brushed it to prep it for him.  I hit these pieces with chemical stripper and a DA last night. Fork lowers, caliper and upper being polished, I started wire wheeling more bolts and waiting for everything so we could get the front end on. Replaced the races and bearings in the stem with a little complication, but after finding that the bottom race wasn't flush, we were able to fix it quick enough.  I measured the lower to mark for the drilling in the lower for the headlight and then assembled. Threadlocker and sequential tightening and measuring later, it was all buttoned up. slapped the seat on and sat on it to decide where the bars were gonna be and marked them for cutting. installed the left hand control.

So, the seat almost literally sits on the battery box, to keep  rattling, friction, and grounding minimal. Also, it looks cleaner than the scrap we used to make the seat pan. Honestly every custom seat i've seen recently, had it on the bottom. *shrug*

The front looks so naked it was almost a surprise when we got it put on there. No million wires coming out of a giant headlight bucket? jesus. But then I stared at it for like 15 minutes and it just screams simple and clean. the lower is gloss black and the upper is polished out, and it's the pop of chrome without being completely ridiculous.
Tomorrow I have to go buy another switch and a couple of inline fuses, so i should be putting in a few more hours tomorrow. I am getting ready to start cleaning up the carbs. On the outside. I see harbor freight brushes in my immediate future. the speedo turned out pretty good too.
Busy busy busy. I've got gas tank on the brain manny. HELP

I have a policy against badmouthing any custom bike - I feel like "if you don't like it, build your own".

With that said - I am very, very glad to see the new seat and grips on this bike. ;D

Where did the headlight come from?

Your seat looks nice, I'd say you got a deal on the work done. I'll be looking for a seat guy eventually.

I will take that the nicest way possible.
Before the bike was made of pieces that made it me because I didn't have the patience to do all the other stuff.
Now that people know it's mine, and I'm not worried about dropping it, or what have you, I can put nicer things on it and not feel guilty.
The guy that is helping me with all this stuff says that my seats were the driving force to extend the build offer 2 years ago. I told him he can burn the last one if he wants. I personally don't mind the zebra, but I get that it's kinda "clown car"
 :)

We have a local bike parts shop called "alter ego" that most the chopper guys shop at. I found one I liked online and then ended up seeing it there for 10 dollars cheaper than online.

Okay, I'm gonna post some pictures really quick and list the 3 last things that i need, and then i'm gonna go to sleep for a few hours. I was up til 5 this morning. After talking with my buddy at great length about the paint, he slapped a fun little stripe on there to wear until i get my paint all in order. After doing nearly everything that was on my to do list, we assembled, adjusted the cam chain and kicked her to life. Everything is charging ok, but I'm gonna have to reseat the carbs on the intake boots because it seems like they might be sucking some air. No cracks or anything.
Anyway, commence picture bomb.

Cleaned the carbs out over an open fire while my buddy painted

spent hours today looking for a shorter speedo cable, a 7/8 universal mirror, and a tailight that functions as a brake, running and tag light. Looks like theres more fabrication in my future.
Still waiting on the sport bike front master, and then I'll probably have to deal with the brake line. fingers crossed the damned thing works.
Alright, mommy needs a power nap.

Love the tank and the pinstriping. The color looks kinda highlighter yellow in the pics. I like it.

So the other day I replaced the right hand side bolts.
Installed the cleaned carbs, got the cables on.
Determined the brake light set up I had wasn't gonna work, and am having all sorts
Of issues with the speedo cable.

I would like to run a front fender, but I would like to trim it
And if we're cutting it its going black. The tank will be staying
The same color, but the pattern will be black. At this point, I may as well delete the badges. I should have just done it before we painted it last time.
I can't find. A 7/8 universal clamp style mirror (small and round like a bar end)
Anywhere. I have a feeling we will butcher mine. I'm ok with that.
Still waiting on my front master ( should be today)
And then I'll probably have to get a new front line. Ive got to stop
By the napa HUB today and pick up my light and then make sure
It'll work. The bike will probably come home in a couple days, and I'll stare at it and curse the weather.
After I figure out what's going on with the intake boots...
I had this bike running really well. It's been run on choke for the duration
Of smoking a cigarette, shut off restart after locking up the house
And roll, for a couple years. I quit smoking in November 2010 so that'll
Give you an idea on why I know how it should be.
So, I may have to resync, but the jetting has been the same  for a long time as well.
Before the muffler fell off. Haha.
The rack went on way too easily, so maybe I just didn't get it on there all the way.
Anyway, a couple more days of doing little bits and she will be roadworthy.
