Oil Tank
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:45:22 PM »

I have a question about the oil tank on my 74 750. On back side of the oil tank , there are two hose connections. One is large, and one is small. Are they vent hoses, and do they just drop down behind the engine and in front of the swing arm?

Thanks, Bob

bottom attaches to little spout near bottom of tranny. 6" hose, small

Big you can either route a hose down and out a safe spot to the swingarm or you can do a filter on it or do the dirty redneck and use a tshirt and hoseclamp

^^Same can be said for pcv on valve cover

So the big hose is a vent hose, and the small hose can actually carry oil from transmission to tank? Tubing for both hoses should be standard black hose? Just wanted to make sure the small hose is the one right in front of the swingarm in the second picture? Made the mistake of not writing info down when disassembly.

Thanks for reply, Bob

No they are both vents. Bottom is tranny vent, like pcv for the tranny essentially

Top is a vent as well, no fluids. Only difference is the top is to atmosphere

Additionally. the small one where it enters the tank, continues inside the tank as a solid pipe up to the condensor do diddy. At that point,, trickles of oil can return to the transmission to feed the chain oiler. So it goes both ways, fumes into the tank, oil into the tranny/chain oiler. But just a little bit.
