what bars for me and my cb750?
« on: January 28, 2013, 01:07:11 AM »
Gday fellas, Ive recently bought my self a k3 cb750 and was wanting to change the bars to something lower/sportier but hopefully not uncomfortable. I used to ride a cb550 with a set of superbike bars on it, that was comfortable but I would have liked a little lower. I'm 6'2" and i like to ride good distances sometimes but mostly i'll be using it for my daily rider to work etc.

Can someone please let me know that is about my hight what set up they have (pics would be great) and pros and cons.

Thanks, Pat

G'Day Pat, well I certainly wouldn't use Clubmans or Clipons if I was gonna ride too far, the OEM bars are very comfy but not very sporty, and the lower you go, the more uncomfortable they become.

My F2 bars were about a 3 inch rise, and were great on a long ride:

The pullbacks on my K1 were great around town and on the highway too, but no good at 100 MPH:

The 2 inch rise bars on my K2 were good for speed and commuting:

The OEM bars on my blue K2 were great on the highway at legal speeds:

Laverda Jota adjustable bars are the coolest handlebars ever built, but no good for long distances. I only ride my Cafe Racer on short rides:

I'd like to put Ape Hangers on my twin engined bicycle:

The 1" rise bars on my Laverda 750 were more comfortable than the Jota bars, but not by much:

The flat bars on my BMW R100RS were pretty uncomfortable actually:

On the other hand, my Triumph Rocket III bars are great for a long ride, but I think the fairing might help:

The high bars on my CX500 are really good, but it'll only do around 100 MPH:

And the 2" rise bars on my Suzy GS1000 were great for the trip to Phillip Island yesterday:

Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That was a good write up Uncle Terry!

My current K5 project came with a clubman/cafe bar and I like them, more comfortable than the standard clubman, not as low. I have not ridden it long distances yet.

Hey flybox,

Did you have to shim the steering stops to keep those bars from hitting the tank on that '78? Thinking about getting  some and ditching the clubmans.

Last fall I put 1975-76 CB400F bars on my 750K5. I really like them as they give a much sportier feel without being uncomfortable. I did not have to modify the cables or stops. I did bend the brake hose banjo from straight to about a 90 to make the turn near the tach. It's tight but fits without rubbing. These bars where genuine Honda so they had the holes drilled for the wires which made the swap very easy. Cost for the bars was $72 including shipping. The mirrors are Napoleon and work great. The only real disadvantage it that you lose a good amount of leverage when pushing the bike around the garage.

mine were orderd from: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/1976/CB400F+A/HANDLEBAR+%2B+STEERING+STEM+%2B+CABLES/parts.html
Took about 3 weeks to get

Or $56 For a reproduction at http://davidsilverspares.com/CB400F-SUPER-SPORT-1976-USA/part_177120/

+1 on Norman M bars.  Super comfy on my 550 rode over 2600 miles in one trip and never had a problem with back or wrist discomfort.

I love the M bars. I had CB400f bars on a 400f and my right hand was constantly going numb after 15 minute rides. I mounted the M bars them upside down so they weren't as low. I couldn't be happier.

Would I be correct in saying that the NormanHyde bars would be much the same as drag bars but just a different bend?

The OE Honda 750 Euro or low bars, not to be confused with the 400F bars:

I've got The erurobars from tomaselli that were suppost to be stockeuro bars but these have a little less pullback and are lower then stock... You can find pictures and meassurements in my project thread but I Can also take pictures later this evenig, they are a perfect combination of sport and comfort !

Edit:
Pullback 3,36"
height 2,44"

Nevermind the askant light and tacho/speedo

Nevermind the askant light and tacho/speedo, a little misleading picture. The bars are a little bit to much tilted forward so they seem higher.

Those M bars look like a great compromise between Ace bars and the Euro's I had on my 550K.

I think that I will spend the extra dough and go that way on my new 550 build.

Drag bars have no bend, Norman bars have a slight bend to them that you can accentuate or not depending on how you want them positioned.  Luckily I am a girl or I might just take offense at Terry's remark   ;)

Nah, don't take offence Mooshie, I don't mind those M bars, in fact my son is going to put a pair on his bike, I just saw them and that's what they reminded me of. Cheers, Terry. ;D
