New questions. Usable valves? tappet adjusters? etc
« on: January 29, 2013, 06:46:01 PM »
Are these combustion chambers usable? One is scratched up/scored pretty good and the other pic is of a valve that got messed up when the cam broke.

Also, my head is caught on something from the front left and right studs where those oil return things with the o rings go. It sounds like its knocking against something and refuses to come up. Is that a thing?

Lastly and most importantly how do you secure the tappet adjusters once you adjust them. Do you just turn the locknut really hard or loctite or what? Im not even gonna tell you why im asking.

Oh one more question. I overtorqued one of those recessed front bolts for the head. The one by the spark plug hole cylinder 2 and when i removed it it took the stud out with it. Is there any thing I need to do to fix that besides just screwing it back in?

Looks like it is time for a valve job! Whenever a cam, has a problem and goes funky, chances are valves are open at the wrong time and they meet mister piston. While you are at check the cylinders for scoring.   I can only think the ferrules to line the cylinders up are binding that would stop them from coming off.

The nut on the tappet adjuster is the lock. It just needs to be tightened right . You can't really use a torque wrench but you can gauge tightness. As someone once said.  Tight is tight and then there is too tight and then you got a ball game !   No lock tight.   Just tight enough to secure it from loosening. Normally they don't loosen up, someone just forgets to tighten them after adjustment
