This Sunday 3rd Feb.

Goldcoasters meeting at 7.30 Nerang 7/11 (Price Street).

We will head to the swapmeet which is held in the grounds at the Australian Motorcycle Museum at Haigslea. Probably stop for brecky somewhere on the way, take a look around the swapmeet and museum and slowly head back. Probably be 3/4 day ride.

Thanks Peter, got it not too long ago. Trying to put my own stamp on it and ride it as much as possible. This rain isn't helping.

yeah well run out through beudesert boonah rd,right at ipswich boonah rd then at yamanto left on cunningham hwy to willowbank then right at ipswich rosewood rd to haigslea amberly rd then left at warrego hwy to the museum/whew!itll be a two tank ride.

Some nice and unusual bikes there too Peter, NR750 and a rotary valve SOHC just for starters....

Yeh, have seen pics, can't wait! Might have to look at hiring a bike from the GC to get there (we're flying up from home).
That swapmeet would be worth being at I reckon....

Its not a real big one Peter, just another excuse to look at bikes and speak sh1t....

Is that a Tranzac Meg on yours mate?
I've got 2 new ones here that I got them to make up with the old style removable baffle.
They sound mean right through the range.

It's a Mac 4 into 1. Does have the baffle inside. Hard to see from that photo. I'm happy with the sound.

The sun is out after many rainy days. Yah, we are off for a day trip. We met up at the 7/11 servo in Nerang for a 7.30 start. As I pull in some dude follows me in and while Im filling up asks if I know of anyone who wants to buy a $60,000 duke for about 20. Might take 15. His misses is sitting in the car. Now straight off the bat I can tell this guy is suspect. I kindly make small talk and Graham comes over. He can talk to Graham while I go pay up. When I get out Graham is taking his number. Anyway the others arrive. All up there are four of us ready to head off. Stuart, Graham, Kevin and myself. Dave cannot make it due to a bung eye however he gives Stu an encyclopedia of notes on how to get to the museum. There’s no way we can get lost now!! We collectively study them for a good 5 seconds and decide to head off.

We avoided the main highway and head out via the back of Beaudesert. The scenery was great. The cows were mooing and the birds were singing. Stu was leading the pack and we felt confident with the directions we had. We were on schedule and going great guns when Stu suddenly makes an impromptu left into some countryside road. I was behind Stu and tried slowing down best I could. Missed the turn by about 20 meters. Suddenly Kevin comes past me trying to stop that old Norton. After turning around and meeting in the side road, Stu reminds us that his left blinker isn’t working. He says he seen a sign “Motocycle Museum”. Lets take the scenic route there”. I wasn’t going to argue. I’m always keen to keep off the main road. However I did wonder. We are a fair way still from where we have to go.This cannot be right. Stu pulls out his 4000 sheets of paper from his jacket. Fantastic colour pics from google maps and quality hand notes from Dave. We quickly realize that this route is not part of the plan. Kevin wanted to get back on the main road as this is what he remembers from the detailed study we did back at the servo. He has some other business to attend to beforehand. Said he will meet us there. We say our goodbyes and press on to the Muesum. After a few kilometers we arrive at Panorama Motocycle Museum. What the hell is this? we ask ourselves. This is not the swapmeet/Musuem we were supposed to be at. This is in fact someone’s private museum. To paint the picture, we are in a very rural area with rolling countryside farms and homesteads. There is a big barn on the property. Anyway we decide to stop and have a look around. The owner is cutting the lawn on his ride on mower and comes over to greet us. We pay the $10 entry fee and head on in. He proceeds to show us around. Tells us that his grandfather and dad started it. They have passed now and he runs it. There are cars and agricultural equipment also there. However predominantly bikes. He says that most of the inventory he has was sourced locally. Meaning within a 400 km radius. There are some Indians, Harley’s a recently restored Ariel, BSA’s etc. if your in the area, I highly recommend you pop in and have a look.

To be continued..... with the rest of the days trip to the intended swap meet and other museum.

Yeah he was real suspect.

After departing Panorama Museum, we headed north towards our destination. I must say, heading on Ipswich-Boonah Road through Peak Crossing is absolutely beautiful. Rolling hills and farms. It’s nice and green at the moment due to the heap of rain we’ve been copping over the last 2 weeks. As we approach Yamanto we pull over again and check the maps and realize we missed the Cunningham Hwy. We had to double back and head towards Amberly Airbase. I was in front now. This was my opportunity to take lead and get us there without a hitch. For most of the trip I was behind Stu trying to keep up. Its weird. When there is a straight run, Stu sits at a good speed, however when there are bends and twisties he accelerates and goes round the bends faster than a straight line. Anyway I was in front now and we were now set. This only lasted 10 minutes when I realize we missed the Haigslea-Amberly Road turn off and were heading west instead of north. We pull over and once again Stu pulls out the stuffed newspaper of notes from his jacket. We were at the Rosewood turnoff that heads north. This takes us basically to where we need to go. We pass through Rosewood which is a nice old country town. Point to note that we must come back here and visit the big old double story pub on the corner in the middle of town. Looks real period however its obviously been tarted up a bit to attract passers by. 10 minutes later we arrive at the Australian Motocycle Museum. Its set on 45 acres. We cannot see the museum at this point, only the swap meet. We pay the $2 entry and go park the bikes with the other bikes on the tarmac. This is a mini show of bikes in itself. As we are unpacking low and behold Kevin rocks up on his Norton. He parks next to us and we start looking around the swapmeet. By this time its around 10am and half the store holders are packing up. There isnt too much content to look at. We were told by one of the store holders that most of the gear was traded by themselves internally the previous afternoon and night when they were setting up. It was a bit of a disappointment. Must make a mention that we ran into two SOHC4 members Pedro 64 and SBR-CB400F. Was good meeting you guys. I didn’t find that ratty old well shaped tank I was after. Note, next year we must get there earlier. After returning back to our bikes we realized Kevin’s two mates turned up on their Nortons.

After about 45 minutes of looking around we head on over to the museum. Sorry there are not a heap of Honda 4 photos. I was sorta in awe of some of my dream bikes.

After spending an hour or so in the museum we decided it’s about time we head off. The Norton crew decided to head home with us. The trip home was pretty uneventful. However we went the same way home as we came as the scenery was much better than the main highway route. It was a shame I didn’t stop and take some shots. Its hard when your travelling with a group. And we didn’t get lost coming home. We parted with the Norton guys at Canungra. They wanted to stop for a coffee. We wanted to head home for a beer. After a quick roadside refresher, we headed home ourselves. Was a great day outing with great countryside,old bikes and good company.

looks like a great day,im pissed off i missed out,my eye was too streaming though causing a dull headache!!its a great museum,the back way is the way to go,,the highway is full of semis and b-doubles of all shapes,all with 700 horsepower and two or three overdrives!,the swap meet dosent have much jap stuff though but you never know untill you look what turns up,i scored some clean type one carbs for 30 bucks a few years ago!stu dosent speed up in the corners its that he just dosent slow down!!howd the bike run christo?did you get a softer return spring yet?
