Anyone headed to Sturgis ??
« on: July 16, 2006, 10:43:57 PM »
I'm leaving Colorado Wednesday 8/2. I'm headed into Sturgis anticipating an arrival date on Wednesday 8/9. Our route will take us into Calgary then east to Regina where we will be stopping and visiting at Cycle One Manufacturing. They are developing a 250 rear tire soft tail frame for the 750 engine that I am seriously considering. We will head south through North Dakota and into Spearfish, SD where our base will be. It would be great if any of you guys hooked up for part of the ride into Sturgis or while in Sturgis. Or for that matter when we head out back to Colorado.

Are you heading to Calgary/Regina specifically for the frame?  Seems like a roundabout route to take to get to Sturgis from Colorado.

Sturgis continues to elude me, but I have been to Biketoberfest in Daytona, and if Sturgis is that x 100, then I wouldn't be terribly interested.  Beautiful country to say the least - been through the Black Hills on my way from Winnipeg to Santa Fe, and I'd love to head back with my bike, but I think I'd go in September or May/June and skip the summer heat and crowds.

Tin Tin - We're just taking the "long way" to Sturgis. 4000 +/- miles. We've skipped Sturgis the past 2 years. We make a long loop each August. Did Colorado & all over Utah to Vegas and back year before last. Did Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington to Glacier Park and back last year. I haven't been to the Canadian Rockies and Regina is in between so it only seemed the thing to do. Hoping for the Pacific Coast Highway next year. Sturgis is quite the affair ! I really don't want to do it every year. Pretty tame actually but 500,000 bikes and the crowd put on quite a show. Just about any bike you could imagine but mostly Harleys etc.  If you're a music fan there are at least 4 national acts each and every night. I attended Daytona 30 years ago so it's hard to compare. I would definitely say Sturgis is the larger event.

Lumbee - glad to hear good things about Cycle One - No way in hell can/will I do a hard tail !!!!

Paul - see you Saturday. We need to hammer out the details.

...yea, its a bar hopper most of the time...100 miles a day at best depending on the roads.  Is Cycleone doing softtails for 750's?

Lumbee -

Go to their website and clink on HONDA. The first soft tail frame they developed came out a few months back. It's a Harley style soft tail. It is designed for a 200 size tire. No jack shaft required. They told me the one I've inquired about, a 250 tire rear end, will be available this fall. It will require a jack shaft. If I can get any advance pix I'll post them. Only problem is my camera can't seem to take a small enough pix even on email/web setting.

RxMan Griff

If you want a decent ride through the Rockies, and you are comming from the south, cross the border at Eureka, Montana and take 93 north ro Radium Hot Springs then through Kootenay National Park to Highway # 1 and east to Calgary.  You cross over the Rockies in the park and it is a great  ride.  Only problem is the speed limit through the park, 90 km/hr.  Have fun.

Hey Greg,

Thanks for the info. My riding buddy happens to do professional photography on the side and wants to take in Waterton Park and enter Banff Park through Seebe. It looks like the trip up 6, 22, 541, 40 from Waterton should be really nice too. We're supposed to meet up with a buddy from Edmonton in Banff. My map shows your route as a scenic byway. Guess we could take Hwy 3 over to 93. You've given me something to think about.
