CT70H Mini Trail!
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:56:06 PM »
I just picked up this little gem.   It is a bit rough, but runs.   It is the relatively rare 4-speed manual-clutch model.

Because of its relatively rare status, I'm going to keep this one stock.   I'm going to pick up another one to customize with a 140+cc motor to take on camping trips to use as a grocery/ice getting.   I'll likely one of the more common 3-speed auto-clutch models as the basis for that.

Immediate needs are a new chain, headlight bucket, and left engine side case (or maybe I'll just repair it).

Nice find Jas ;D These little mini trails are getting hard to find in original shape and even more rare a 4 speed. What years is it? My first Honda was a red 1970 CT70 3 speed automatic (no clutch lever). Great little bike had loads of fun on it. Here is the only pic I can find of it sitting in my parents family room in the early 70's.

In the early 70s I had a summer job at a Midwestern amusement park. Because the park was relatively large, management bought 20 to 30 four-speed CT70s for managers, maintenance personnel, and the parking lot foremen. The other foremen and I ran the snot out of our 70s, sometimes hitting an indicated 45mph when completely tucked in. We also used them to patrol (read race on) the perimeter road, ostensibly to deter fence-climbers.

And I made $1.80/hour on top of that!

Did you by chance purchase that from a guy in Tamaqua named Don? If so, it used to be mine. I had the exact same one that I just recently sold.

Yes, I did.    How much did he give you for it?

$300. Had spark but wouldn't run when I sold it. Bought it from a guy down the road about four years ago. I messed around with it a little bit but it had sat in my shed untouched the last 3 1/2 years. I had cleaned the carb and filed the points, adjusted the valves and still couldn't get it to fire. I was gonna hang on to it and restore it one day, but somehow ended up with a few too many bikes and had to let some go. Sold it about 3 weeks ago. it was a good little bike with potential. It's the desireable 4-speed clutch model, that's why I was hanging on to it. Glad it ended up in the hands of a forum member. What are ya gonna do with it?

It's my first Honda Mini.  I paid double what you got for it, but it was running.   I think he said he put a coil on it, I forget.    In any case I'm going to strip it down and do a full resto on it.  I'd like to build a hot-rod 140-160cc out of a CT70 some day, but, since this is a 4-speed K0 bike, I will do a fully original resto.    I'm partial to Candy Topez Orange, which was another color on 4-speed K0, so I'm considering painting it that color instead of the Candy Green, but I haven't decided.   When done, it may do light duty as a camper bike to use to get around when camping w/o having to drive my beast of a truck.

Cool.   A friend of mine who is also classic Honda enthusiast and collector is also restoring a K0, his is a '69 silver-tag.
We've already said that when we're done, we'll ride them to one of the motorcycle breakfasts.

We're both also into the small Honda Twins, and are probably going to ride our 175's to one (he has a real nice '68 CA175, and I have a pair of '68 CL175's).
