number stamped on the rear hold down tab on a 1971 cb750 tank

I am having my 1971 CB750 tank stripped and repainted.  The auto body painter found a serial number on the hold down tab A46519.  Ser # for bike is 1094087.  Anyone have any idea why they would put a serial number on a gas tank.  Don't think it is a paint code?

I had the same thing Red on my K1. I think it must be some type of reference number for the factory.
