clutch lifter lost it's spring .....
« on: February 12, 2013, 05:30:09 AM »
rebuilt the carbs on my 76 cb550f, upon reinstalling the carbs and reconnecting my clutch cable, i noticed the lifter that it attaches to no longer has spring to it. After connecting cable, my clutch lever pulls in easy (way too easy) and then stays put, does not spring back. What did i screw up? if i remember correctly the lifter that the bottom of the cable attaches to had its own spring action... puzzled... (p.s. the good news is my carb rebuild worked great!)

Sounds like you need to remove the cover and make sure the lifter is underneath the lever (#6 and #7):

I've attached a pic from mine that I had on my phone.

It would, but make sure you rule everything else out first I guess. Hate to have you drain it and open it up to find out that's not the reason.
