Hello, I am honored to have been nominated for Bike of the Month.

I worked on this bike for more than a year. Did everything myself, in my garage except the paint, wheel lacing, chrome, powder coat and cylinder boring.

Started with a 52,000 mile '76 K model I found on Craig's List. I had a plan to get rid of the stock carbs. Decided to add a Cafe seat and within a few days all I had was a cut up frame and an engine left in my garage. I really like the old Honda Elsinore look and the tank on the Kawasaki H1. So I began my project with these ideas. Next I decided to "open up" the side cover area. Moving the oil tank turned out to be the most time consuming part of the build. With the oil tank hidden under the tank, I thought it would be neat to go with a mono shock. Sounded simple enough. I went to Mid Ohio for the Vintage Days and picked up a dirt bike, mono shock swing arm. I spent a few weeks making bushings and finding bearings to adapt the swing arm to my frame. When I got the swing arm on and stepped back to take a look, I did not like it. So, another offering to the Bike Builder Gods. I found some heavy wall 1" X 1 1/2" rectangular tubing and built a swing arm (what I should've done in the beginning) I got my new swing arm on the bike but could not get the single spring stiff enough to support the bike. 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 springs did not do it. Finally, just when I was about to go with a lower shock linkage, I found a 5000 pound per inch Indy car spring and it worked perfect! I planned to keep the engine stock. I think it is a good idea to build the complete bike, test ride it, then take it apart for paint. Well, when I was in the test ride phase, I was really happy with my intake manifold with a single Mikuni carb, the bike ran really well but I could hear piston slap, had some oil leaks and the bike would smoke a little out the exhaust. So, while my frame was off to the Powder coater I tore into the engine. If you are going to bore it and buy new pistons, might as well go to 836, right? Went with new valves and springs also. I left the stock cam in. The pistons are now quiet, the oil leaks and smoke are gone and the bike is very fast and a blast to ride. My last name is Nelson, so I named the bike: NELSONORE.

I hope everyone sees parts of my three favorite bikes in this build. 1974 Honda Elsinore, SOHC CB 750 and Kawasaki H1.

The bike is entered into the International Motorcycle Show - Charlotte, Ultimate Builder competition this weekend. Here is a picture.

 Wow. I need better pics!
I saw Nelson's bike at the Charlotte show tonight and, I must say, it's pretty damn nice. Had a crowd around it the whole time.
My silver '71 CB500 is on display at the VJMC booth, if any of you make it to the Charlotte show.

I originally bought this bike for the engine. I wanted to do a 550 engine swap into my 500, but after riding this one home, I realized it was too nice and too complete to rob for parts.

The engine is now 563cc, ported and polished head, match ported manifolds, CB650 cam, jetted carbs and NOS Jardine exhaust.
The paint mimics the CB750F stripe and I used Super Sport badges. Did a dual disc conversion. The bike handles and rides great and is a pleasure to ride.

I've since remnoved the flyscreen and installed some sleeker mirrors.
