Tews, I had purchased that tank with the intention of putting it on my '77. I'm not a fan of the '77/78 K tanks. It's kind of up in the air as to what I'm going to do with my '77. If I end up selling the bike, I'll keep you in mind for the tank. The paint looks rough on the outside but it has no dings at all and hardly any rust on the inside!

Hey Slim. Here is another clue that the bodywork and or paint may have been tampered with somewhat. If you look at your sidecovers and check out the orange jewel emblem mounted on them the wings of the emblem are pointing in the wrong direction. If they are wrong on both sides somebody has had them off or mounted new facing in the wrong direction. If the large tail light bothers you check out the light and fender off a 1971 or K1 750. Smaller and a different shape with no ramp. As for the Kerker pipe it would be a shame to cut it up and modify it,those are good quality pipes and lesser examples would be better for modification. Keep those update coming and hopefully some interior carb pics.

Steering bearings feel good with no notching...that is great. I had the same issue with my K3 that I found with 3,000 miles on a year ago. I would still suggest at some point you take those top and bottom ball bearings out to clean and grease. Mine were pretty dry after sitting all those years. Some guys will install new tapered steering head bearing which is another option. I left my K3 with the stock since the miles were so low like yours and there was no notching.

Steve-O, what bars are those on your bike? Those are about what I'm looking for.

They are super bars, highly recommended. They not only look good but are very comfortable for long rides.

+1 - don't cut up the Kerker.  I may be interested in buying it.

Superbike bars? I see some on the DCC website for pretty cheap. Seems like it might not be that drastic of a drop to require different cable lengths either. I've had that problem with other bikes.

I hear ya guys on the Kerker. I won't chop it up. It will be a few months before I can start working on the bike. At that time, I'll start a build thread and if anyone wants anything I'm not using then we can go from there.

VTSlim:  Glad to see you brought it home.  Congrats!  You have her looking better already.
I share your feelings about the size of the brake light.  As Ekpent suggests, try the 70/71 rear fender and brake light.   I did the same on my 74 and am very pleased.  Enjoy your new project and good luck and safe riding.  Stickman

I know you mentioned above you want to keep the bike as close to stock as you can. Might want to hold onto that tail light when you replace it with the K1 light. Don't be surprised if you go to a vintage show and have guys tell you that light is not era correct for the K4. I have that same light on my K3 and K4 and do not mind it at all. That was the look in the 70's man. And I would rather have a tail / brake light people behind me can see real good too. Nice find for you and have fun with it.
