I love that fork brace, looks really oldscool.

I am in brooklyn too... keep up the pics

Thanks man. The brace is fairly easy to make, tried to make it like the hoop braces they sell for xs650's. Where abouts in Brooklyn are you?
I am in West Williamsburg are, close to the Bridge.

Awesome, Im over in Clinton Hill. When I get this thing running we should go for a ride.

I got a steering dampener off a GSXR. I'm going to tap the lower tree and weld a mount on the frame this weekend, will have to touch up the frame paint a bit.  Anyone else running one of these?

Yes, we definitely should. I am working on my bike too... slowly but surely.

BTW, do you know any good welder in NY? I have a set of CR replica pipes that need to be welded together

I'm not personally running the damper but others are running it.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=90969.0

Big thread but it has plenty of examples and a couple of the setup you intend to run. Check your lower triple it should be tapped for a damper. I'm pretty sure atleast I know my bike has one and the thread I posted references the hole a couple times

Hmm, I don't personally know any tig welders in the area, would probably want to have them tig welded because of the thin gauge. Im sure theres some shops around though. If you need help welding any other parts let me know, I have a mig setup.

I can't get over how good the white cam cover and exhaust look.  I never would have thought of that combo with the gold, but it looks great.

I didnt get all the parts I ordered in for the weekend, so I just mounted the dampener and started running the wiring. I decided to make my own harness instead of trying to save the stock one. I'll have more pics of that next weekend.

I made a bracket and welded it to the frame instead of buying a clamp on style mount, this saves a few bucks and looks more minimal. For the mounting to the lower tree I just used the stock mounting hole which happened to be threaded for the M8 1.25 bolt on the dampener.

Got the tail light mounted as well, I dont like how thick it is. I think im going to try to cut the lens down about a 1/2 inch and run two LED strips inside instead of the stock bulb. Also, I put a battery kill red keyed switch on the seat pan ( Don't worry, it clears my nuts fine).

The reg/rec will be hidden in the seat compartment, Im trying to use one i had laying around off an xs650, I think i have the wiring figured out.... we'll see. I ordered a small antigravity battery which will sit in there as well. Should have everything in this week and have the bike running soon.

Looks beautiful, but I'm a bit concerned about that bracket for the steering damper.  The forces it would be subjected to in the event of a tank slapper are very large, and from that pic it looks like it could be torn off.

Thanks for your concern, I didnt really get a good pic of it. I's actually welded on the front directly to the frame and on the back side its gusseted and welded on as well, i'll try to get a better pic next time Im at the shop. Its 1/8"steel.

Got my battery today, it's pretty awesome. It only weighs 1lb. I've removed my starter and plugged the hole, and only running the absolute necessities electrically, so this should be plenty of juice. I should have my carb parts tomorrow, almost all the floats were in rough shape, had pinholes / imploded, So I ordered all new sets.

Then it sounds like it should be OK.  From the pics it looked like it could have been just a 1/16" tab welded on with no gusseting.

Why didn't you put up an ad for some good used ones? My plastic ones float just fine and I would have given you them for a whole lot less than that

Whats the stroke of the steering damper ? Isn't that model to small ? or have you decreased your steering ?
Please ! Take a look and give me feedback in my project thread, its much needed :)

I didn't really think of that haha. Thank you for the offer though. I was just in a hurry to get all the parts together.

Hey, I'm not really sure either. I just hooked it up and it seems to work fine with no adjustment.

I tapped some set screws into the lower triple to reduce the lock to lock distance, to keep my bars from smacking the tank. With those in place the stroke on that dampener is still more than enough, theres about 10mm left. I'll take some better pics or a video this weekend to show you what I mean.

I finished the wiring, took a bit longer than I expected. I decided to make a new harness from scratch, wrapped everything in loom and tried to make it as simple as possible. I got a little anxious to get all that done then try to fire up the bike so I didn't take many pictures. I'll get some more detailed shots of that this weekend. SO I  put some gas in the tank and sure enough it leaks a little around the petcock. Ordered some more sealer and Im going to have to figure that out. Needless to say, I ran out of time and didn't get to fire it up.

I'm digging the electrical stuff. I know no in the process pics but what about finished product? I made my own harness too and like to see other examples. It just seems like many people say they do it then never post pics or anything, just what they did

I'll take some pics this weekend, I got too caught up in the moment to take any this past weekend. I used that little fuse block I found at pep boys for like 9.99, it really made it easy to keep things simple. Other than that block theres just one inline fuse on the reg/rec, and a tiny junction block in the headlight bucket I used to ground all the gauge lights and headlight.

I did something similar I used an expanded version of your block, a 6 block fuse and used some relays for headlights and coils. Ran lights thru separate fuses too. Keep up the progress it is cool

Does anyone know what size bleed screw I need for a stock k1 caliper? I got a 10mm one which seems like the right diameter but the threads were too coarse.
