Do you have to pull the motor to replace the cam chain using the master link method on a CB750 SOHC??

Yes you do
Yes. The cam cover will only come up about 1/2 in or so, while its in the frame.

Unless you or a PO cut the frame rails out which was and is a popular modification. Replacing them with a bolt in variety.

Heartbreaking isn't it? I was in a bad mood for days when I realized that. Once you have pulled the engine a few times though, it becomes more routine :)

Yes, heartbreaking, upset, pissed and swearing at the Japanese engineers again that had too much saki. Great machine but they never think of the mechanics who have to service the machines. I am disappointed in Honda. Can you tell me more about the cutting of the frame rail. Is there a part readily available to just bolt back in? Let me know please.  Another good reason to restore my Kaw Z1900 instead of a Honda 750. Thanks guys.

You cut the two frame rails under the center spine and install (image below) suds for easier engine removal. But you need to cut some metal and weld the suds to the frame.

Should look like this when your done.
