Idle problem
« on: June 01, 2005, 08:13:11 PM »
I have a 75 750f. It idles fine after warm up but after a few miles idle jumps up to 2100-2200. Someone told me that the spark advance springs maybe the culprit, are they worn out after 17,000 mi, or are they just gunked up. What do I clean/lube them with?
The bike has an after market carb system installed, however it did the same thing with the stockers on. I always thought it was the carbs?

Any help is always appreciated,
God Bless,
Doug

Prolly an air leak at the intake manifolds. I had a new set that did the same thing. I would turn the idle speed and when it got down to a certain point, the motor would die. I chased that one for quite a while. You can grab the advancer while installed and see if it's stuck.

Remember that the idle speed should only be set when the motor is at full normal operating temperature. After starting when the motor is still relatively cold idle speed will be low and need a little throttle to keep it running. This is quite normal.
