1976 CB 550 Speedo drive
« on: February 06, 2013, 04:38:27 PM »
I have just reassembled the front hub and speedo drive and now the blade connector in the cable connection opening does not move when the wheel is spun. The hub and rim was out for powder coating, so it was disassembled. It went back together as I thought it came apart, but obviously something is wrong. Does any one know if the small drive ring fits inside the gear box housing with the slots over the gear box housing tabs, or does it go inside the retainer facing the other direction? If you can help, please let me know.
cheers,
g

Thanks for the reply! It was worse than you think. I had misplaced the tabs, and had to fish them out of the trash. Once I figured out that there had to be something between the retainer and the drive to make the drive spin; I remembered the tabs. Problem is now I have found one set, but the tabs for the other bike is nowhere to be found. It looks like I can fabricate some from a piece of strong weatherstripping.
Thanks again - it is good to know that there are knowledgeable people out there to reach out to for help. I am building these two CB 550's (50 serial numbers apart) for my 40+ year old boys as cafe racers. I have quiter a bit of "stock" parts left over if you know of anyone that needs them.
cheers,
g
