This is great setup. But I have one question. Why you need to modify starter gear? And why you can't use oem starter clutch ?
Probably I'm missing something...

The new rotor has a different roller set up. You do not use the the OEM rotor

For CB500/550 folks, Electrex in the UK offers a 25A race alternator for about $550 US. It is a permanent magnet alternator, the rotor weighs in at around 250 grams with the whole system weighing ~1kg. It also comes with a very high quality reg/rec.

Just bringing it up because they don't really seem to advertise and it has very little presence on this forum. It appears to be the only real off the shelf alternator upgrade for our bikes.

Picture comparing the stock pieces with the Electrex kit.

Electrex also has a 750 unit, also kick only. Their 550 model will fit on 350/400 fours as well.
Cycle-X as usual is somewhat vague about details - is it a shunt or series regulator?... Electrex states theirs is series (much better) and Cycle-X includes nonsense: "Honda's 3 phase field excited charging will create a magnetic pull when the regulator tells it. This magnetic pull can reduce horsepower (Sometimes 2 horsepower)" - the horsepower draw from an alternator equals the power output plus inefficiency. The spinning magnet - permanent or induced - causing a power load directly...no. Magnetic hysteresis braking does exist but the alternator rotor and field coil do not make a brake, a hysteresis brake is very different structurally.

Electrex - 350W (0.48 HP)
CycleX - 224W (0.3 HP) (same output as a stock 750 alternator)

Regardless, you lose electric start on a 750 (others have internal starter clutches not driving the rotor).
The big question - is the smaller flywheel suitable for a street bike? Race bikes don't have to idle nicely and often need high speed roller starters to get them running... then constant revving or a very high idle RPM to avoid stallout. That would really suck on a streeter.

Damn interesting.  I'm curious why Anders was able to make a system that did not lose the electric starter but this one does.

I don't know how many guys here are ready to buy a kit for our 750,but we seem to be a lot ( at least  7-8).I don't see why we need to be a  lot to start a new kit.I mean,he make profit for each kit, right,so why waiting ?

This is what you need. I did it myself. Of corse I did not do actual machining work... The most complicated part is doing measurments

Short story....

You need to make an adapter that goes over original sprocket. Inside diameter of that adapter needs to have interference fit over the sprocket. But basically you first make that adapter close to final measurements.  Than you take it to heat treatment because it will not last without it. Then you grind inside of it to final measurement. Than you press fit it on sprocket. Then you grind outside diameter to final measurement.  Like I sad it looks simple but it is not....

The second thing is that conus adapter for flywheel. Again make it close to final measurement. Heat treating... Final grinding.

The thing I did with cover was not necessary step. You can just make something that goes in original cover....

I payed all 200eu... including stator and rotor (VFR800/R6 yamaha ) But like I sad my design and I did the measurement....

important thing is on the right.... the 2 adapters are in red on right..... but the one that goes on starter sprocket cant be made to final measurements... And don't try to make this two adapters without heat treating them!... file is in mm units... on the left is cover if you want to change cover.... you need to cut original cover for it

.... you will more info... but if somebody wants to make this conversion ask me for more info... and if somebody start to sell this for 500 I will hunt them down   ;)

Hi everyone I think me design is the best. I was going to make kits this last summer but ended up having a quadruple bypass surgery instead had a heart attack  last week so I have been working in his shop repairing cars. I told a few people that I would make them a kit this spring summer and planning making extra to defray the cost of the materials.
