Alternator Up Grade 32amps

  Hi
I have been working on a 32amps and 45amps Alternator up grade. The 32amp one is ready for road testing.

The 45amp one still need a few thing dune to it. The stock rotor weights 5 lbs 12 oz the 32amp rotor weights

2 lbs 4oz.

  The stock alternator out put is 17amps. not sure how much it will cost yet. It Will be flywheel

                                                                                                                                        new regulator plugs
                                                                                                                                        new wiring
                                                                                                                                        installation

As you can see in the photo there is a lot of space in the cover and a differant space used with a differant cover
the stock cover walls are papered end the mount holes location for the stator is critical
I think the 32amp alt will work on the 500,550,350 and 400 also.

Yes, but some of us don't care.... ;D   Have you seen the billet blocks Mike Reick is making..? {i have one of those as well...}  :P

          An Alternator  out put is mainly controlled by it's magnetic field and it's almost imposable to pull the stator out of the

         flywheel and if the end of you finger gets in between the cover and engine when it's being install  your going to need a bandaid.

          And it only weighs 2 lbs 4 oz

Do you have any performance curves or duty cycle info on the unit?  Conversion efficiencies?

At what RPM is that 32 amp peak?

No need to create another cover Ron, just cut some out of the original cover and tig it back up, seen it done before mate.... ;)

               I would want to have a rigid welding  fixture to hold everything in place if I was going to do it.

No need to create another cover Ron, just cut some out of the original cover and tig it back up, seen it done before mate.... ;)

Yup....that's the plan. Anders has been over my house several times. He is a great fella with a huge amount of bike knowledge. He has dedicated a good amount of time to this project. He has other good ideas too but....time and money. ;D ;D ;D

I have seen the rotors and spacers that Anders has been machining and its very good quality and well worth the money -  Ill be road testing the rotors once the snow melts. Cant wait! Anders has a lot of talent...

It is sobering when that cover is grabbed by that magnetic force. ::) I hate messing with modern alternator covers.

That's a pretty significant weight loss. Anyone racing these things would want one unlesss they go straight discharge and remove it all.

 The biggest problem is getting a reg/rect to handle the extra without overheating. The first generation hayabusa's had a problem with overheating. Guy's are switching to ZX-14 parts.

This dovetails nicely with Mooshy's post about using heated clothing. With an upgrade like this running a heated vest should not be a problem.
