I am using a VFR800 flywheel and winding in my 550 cases.  Picked up a later alternator cover with the exposed bolt holes and had a spacer made up to go inside the cover to hold the windings and a tapered sleeve on the crank for the flywheel.  Was pretty straight forward.
              I'm just going to make a 32amp. setup for the 500/550

LiFePo4, Permanent Magnent Alternators, welcoming old Hondas to the 2000's.

I had previously mocked up a external alternator setup, but i chickened out before I tried it  :-[

Relays for the headlight are well covered. I have one of Hondaman's dual relay units which fits nicely in the hlight shell. EasternBeaver and others have them also, or DIY diagrams abound.

Don't know about the ignition.

They enhance any system, but I don't think they would be ncessary just because the alt puts out more. Isn't it regulated by the regulator?

Bobby....as MC said the headlight relay has been covered (at least in his build thread). I could post some pics of my set up but I have a link that pretty well explains it. It does work well.
 The reason I say all those upgrades will work better with the higher powered alt is they are directly battery driven....a well charged battery will always work better. This new system will insure that. It is actually a much simpler system as the field coil is eliminated....less connections to corrode etc. System just has the 3 yellow stator wires (heavier gauge too) and a positive/ground. Nice reg/rec too.

Yes Mike all that you say is true. I was contemplating having a rewind done to get more from the alternator. This would eliminate that and have a have a tested result.
The reason for my comment about a write up resulted from a lot of new people coming here with no experience. I am seeing a lot of first timers who never worked on anything from their statements.

Very interested in this setup. Great to see some fresh ideas for our old bikes!  I really like my heated vest and would like to use it on my cb without worrying about a dead battery.

Fantastic stuff. Your skills never cease to amaze! Like Treeve said above, I know a guy who can hook you up with a few motors for as long as you need them :D if Adam can't commit to that.

Looking forward to checking it out and seeing how it performs on the K7.

Just for grins, you might try adding additional loads to see how much power it can produce at idle. 8)

      This fall I'm going to use my heated jacket, pants, socks , gloves and heated grips.

I was thinking more like extra light bulbs to see how many watts over a normal load it will produce, before the regulator is no longer shunting the excess to ground. I guess you could simply insert an ammeter into the shunt circuit and measure the excess directly?

Hurry up with the kits Anders,  ;D ;) I want 3 of them. It looks like there is more than enough room to trim the stator cover down a bit, how big is the spacer you put in behind the stator..?

Nice setup, the adapter for the stator looks top notch! Im guessing the rotor / stator / regulator-rectifier is a donor part of a modern sport bike?  I would be happy to test but my bike is kinda not finished...

I hope kits become available, I too would be interested in a kit even if its just the taper adapter and the stator adapter. any idea what
